Classic Melbourne is a website especially for lovers of fine classical music, whether they are performers, students or audiences. The site will spread awareness of the wealth of performance and classical music activity in Melbourne and beyond.
We aim to encourage audiences to consider more concert going, especially to hear younger musicians who are the professionals of the future.
We offer reviews of the best classical music in Melbourne. However, while celebrating excellence, we suggest that there’s plenty to enjoy in community and student performance – usually at a low cost!
Classic Melbourne believes in maintaining a high standard of reviewing, and will offer ideas for reviewing concerts and recorded music.
It will also lead retired audiences in recalling and writing about their favourite classical music experiences. Source

The Australian Ballet: Copland Dance Episodes
1 Featuring The Australian Ballet in some of its finest dancing, Justin Peck’s Copland Dance Episodes is 73 minutes of sheer joy. The ballet and its expansive score evoke themes of Americana that readily translate to the Australian landscape. The ballet gives viewers a grand and majestic ride through Aaron Copland’s collection of iconic works including pieces from Appalachian Spring, Billy the Kid and Rodeo.
The Australian Boys Choir and The Gesualdo Six: Crossing the Bar

This concert by all six groups of the Australian Boys Choral Institute (ABCI) alongside visiting English sextet The Gesualdo Six was a parade of highlights, and an educational experience not just for the young ABCI singers but for us all.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: Spotlight – Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra plus Mozart and Strauss
Heather Leviston has devoted much of her life to listening to classical music and attending concerts. An addiction to vocal and string music has led her to undertake extensive training in singing and perform as a member of the Victoria State Opera chorus and as a soloist with various musical organisations.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra admire them both – and they’re fans of Bartók, too. Enjoy the music of these three composers whose careers spanned different countries and eras, but who remain united in their abilities to bring out the brightest colours of the orchestra. You will often see Strauss and Mozart on the same concert program, partly because their music sounds so compatible when it’s played side by side.
