News Canada, Ontario and Stratford invest $9.7M in public transit infrastructure
STRATFORD — On July 13 the federal, provincial, and municipal governments announced more than $9.7 million in investments to create more efficient and user‑friendly transit system in Stratford. Per a press release, funding will be used to replace buses and intend improve reliability, efficiency and environmental performance of the transit fleet.

News Northland’s Baltic Power delivers first offshore wind electricity to Poland’s grid
TORONTO — Northland Power Inc. announced on July 10 that Baltic Power – its 1.1-gigawatt offshore wind project, owned 49 per cent by Northland and 51 per cent by ORLEN – has achieved first power, reportedly delivering the first electricity ever generated from offshore wind to Poland’s national grid. “Today, the first electricity from offshore wind flows to Polish homes and businesses — a historic moment for the country,” said Christine Healy, President and CEO of Northland Power.
News NEO Battery and University of Toronto awarded Mitacs funding for battery tech
TORONTO — NEO Battery Materials Ltd. announced that in collaboration with the University of Toronto, it has been granted a multi-year, non-dilutive $180,000 CAD research investment through the Mitacs Accelerate program to advance niobium-based lithium batteries for defence and industrial systems. The strategic project will be conducted in cooperation with the University of Toronto’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Cascades has promoted François David to vice-president (VP) of sustainable development, communications and public affairs. David has nearly 30 years’ experience in marketing, including stints with Johnson & Johnson, Astral Media (now Bell Media), Molson Coors and PendoPharm. He joined Cascades in 2020 as VP of marketing and innovation for North America, added sales to his title in 2021 and was promoted to commercial VP for tissue papers in 2024.

TORONTO — Canada Nickel Company Inc. announced on July 6 a strategic commercial partnership with RWE Supply & Trading GmbH. (RWEST), a global energy and carbon trading firm, to support commercialization of low-carbon intermediate stainless & alloy steel products from Canada Nickel’s subsidiary Net Zero Metals, utilizing feeds from Canada’s Nickel’s Crawford Nickel Project.

TORONTO — On Jul. 2, PowerBank Corporation announced that the 7.01 MW DC / 5 MW AC ground-mount community solar project known as SB-14, located in upstate New York, has achieved commercial operation. The 7.01 MW project was developed and constructed by PowerBank for Honeywell International Inc. as part of the company’s $41 million USD engineering, procurement, and construction agreement covering a portfolio of three community solar projects totalling 21 MW DC.
