The Real Network

In 2014, a new digital platform disrupted the landscape and transformed traditional broadcasting in South Africa. CliffCentral, co-founded by Gareth Cliff and Rina Broomberg, was the first to pioneer on-demand content, accessible to anyone in Africa that had an internet connection. A new space was created for stories and dialogue that did not fit the constraints of controlled, boring, linear media. Podcasting, still in its infancy, was brought to life for Africans with CliffCentral’s unscripted talk shows, in-depth interviews and interactive discussions on topics from current affairs and entertainment, to lifestyle and entrepreneurship. Hosts, guests and listeners were able to express themselves freely, and they did! Over the next decade, that commitment to authenticity saw the multi-awarded platform grow in leaps and bounds. In 2023, keeping with continued media innovation, the platform secured new partnerships and accelerated growth investment – and by March 2024, The Real Network was launched, absorbing the experience and heavy-lifting of CliffCentral, and retaining the ethos of bringing to market relevant and real content.
