The Child Development and Learning Laboratory (CDLL) is now certified as a Nature Explore Classroom by the Dimensions Educational Research Foundation’s Nature Explore Program. Classrooms with this certification help fill the void between children and nature by integrating research-based outdoor learning opportunities into children’s daily lives. With this certification, the CDLL joins an ever-expanding network of 600 like-minded spaces who foster highly effective, nature-based outdoor learning.

While many College of Business Administration students spent the summer working, interning, traveling or enjoying some well-earned time away from Mount Pleasant, things were anything but quiet back on campus. Offices moved, construction crews got to work, websites changed and new communications took shape. Behind the scenes, faculty and staff spent the summer asking a deceptively simple question: How can we make the CBA experience work better for students? Some of the answers are easy to spot.

Every map needs a starting point. For self-proclaimed map geek John Nelson, that point was Central Michigan University. See how maps — combined with creativity and a passion for helping others learn — have paved the path of his fascinating career. John’s journey at CMU was unique. He majored in geography, earth science and social science and minored in art. He graduated in 2000, then returned for a master’s in geoscience in 2004.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Robert and Marjorie Griffin Endowed Chair in American Government, Central Michigan University, in partnership with Mott Community College and the Ballenger Eminent Persons Lecture Series, will host presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham 7 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 24 at the Flint Institute of Arts.

Marketing major Ainsley Reigler from DeWitt, Mich., knew she wanted to study marketing long before she enrolled at Central Michigan University. A high school job shadow with the marketing director at McLaren Health Care showed her that marketing could be much more than advertising products or promoting brands. Instead, she saw how thoughtful communication could help people navigate important changes, understand new services and make informed decisions.

Central Michigan University faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in a university-wide conversation exploring an important question: What does a caring university look like at CMU?

As the city of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, prepares to welcome students back to Central Michigan University, members of the local community are literally painting the town maroon. “You’ll see CMU colors painted on sidewalks and storefronts throughout the downtown area,” said Padraic McMeel, president and CEO of the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce. “The painted elements join the yard signs, window clings and other CMU elements proudly displayed in our local businesses.

As emerging technologies reshaped national defense, Central Michigan University's (CMU) Drone Lab provided students with opportunities to contribute to one of the nation's largest military training exercises while developing the technical skills needed for careers in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
