The boxers traded punches for a cause. The event benefitted children with autism. More than 30 combatants stepped into the ring for hand-to-hand combat in 16 total bouts to raise more than $5,000 in the Military Boxing Showdown on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event, which was managed by the non-profit Steel Horse Knights at American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, attracted more than 400 fight fans.
Selbyville project gets preliminary approval
By unanimous vote, the Selbyville Town Council this week granted preliminary site plan approval for the proposed Lighthouse Towne Center, after hearing concerns — mostly from residents of the nearby Coastal Villages residential community. The council heard a presentation by Doug and Tammy Clark, who own the property and want to build a 24,000-square-foot center for several businesses at Lighthouse and Lynch roads.

The award was established to honor someone whose service, compassion and leadership reflect the mission of SCVV — helping seniors live independently.

Dagsboro resident Carol Lynch is a strong-willed woman of faith who enthusiastically calls her exercise classes ‘Tuning Up The Temple — Get Fit for Christ.’ The music and exercises are fulfilling and beneficial. The ladies (and occasionally some men) between the ages of 50 and 85 take pleasure in the opportunity to benefit from consistent fitness and fellowship with their peers.
Loose loosens up offense as IR football defeats Saint Mark’s
The quarterback keeper is one of the most straightforward plays in football. The quarterback takes the snap in the shotgun formation (several yards behind the line of scrimmage) and immediately rushes forward into the teeth of the opponent’s defensive line or accelerates around the end. The Indians River High School football team used the maneuver to help defeat Wilmington Saint Mark’s, 38-17, in a DIAA Class 2A non-district football game on Thursday, Oct. 1.
IR Unified flag football wins opener, 49-20
The Indian River High School Unified flag football team opened its 2026 season with a convincing 49-20 victory over the defending DIAA state champions on Wednesday, Sept. 29. The Indians (1-0) spread the field with their explosive running game and an efficient passing attack. Sophomore quarterback Andrew “A.J.” Antol guided the offense as an outstanding field general. Indian River led 25-6 after one quarter, 31-12 at halftime and 43-12 after three periods.
Beach access largely restored after storm
Nearly two weeks after a pounding nor’easter tore at Delaware beaches, DNREC Shoreline & Waterway Management Section teams have “restored functional beach access to crossovers where sand material was available, and DNREC is also working closely with the Town and its public works on additional repair measures,” Michael Globetti — who handles public relations for DNREC — told the Coastal Point this week.

Magdeburger defends Fenwick Island’s voting practices
As Delaware’s Supreme Court considers an appeal by the ACLU of a lower court decision on Fenwick Island’s voting procedures, the town’s mayor remains defiant in her defense of those practices. Fenwick Island Mayor Natalie Magdeburger said at the Sept. 25 meeting of the Fenwick Island Town Council that the issue — whether Fenwick Island’s practice of allowing artificial entities, such as family trusts, to vote in town elections — is being considered by the state Supreme Court.
