Sept. 9, 2026, 3:01 a.m. ET The 2026 NFL season is finally here. The season officially begins on Wednesday, when the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks host the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch. The Washington Commanders begin their season on Sunday, as they head up I-95 to face the two-time defending NFC East champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles became the first NFC East team in over 20 years to win back-to-back division titles last season.

Sept. 8, 2026, 7:40 a.m. ET Even though the season opener for the Washington Commanders is just days away, it is never too early to look ahead to the future and what the Commanders might do in the 2027 NFL Draft. In ESPN’s most recent mock draft, Washington is projected to have the No. 10 overall pick and select wide receiver Charlie Becker out of Indiana. First, it is notable that the Commanders are projected to have the No. 10 overall pick.

Sept. 7, 2026, 6:03 p.m. ET The Washington Commanders never wanted to release wide receiver Van Jefferson. However, when Washington trimmed its roster down to 53 players last week, it was a numbers game at wide receiver. The Commanders kept seven receivers, with Luke McCaffrey seemingly winning the final spot over Jefferson. Jefferson is now headed back to Washington. On Monday, the Commanders signed the 30-year-old veteran to their practice squad and released tight end Joshua Simon.

Sept. 7, 2026, 8:12 a.m. ET How many games will the Washington Commanders win in 2026? Well, it depends on who you ask. When the Commanders signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs last month, there was genuine excitement about the upcoming season. Then, right after, star left tackle Laremy Tunsil tore his triceps, and reports of Washington’s struggles in training camp to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels led some to think the Commanders would be terrible in 2026.

Sept. 7, 2026, 7:02 a.m. ET The Washington Commanders open the 2026 NFL season on Sunday, when they travel to Philadelphia to face the defending NFC East champion Eagles. It’s been a difficult few weeks for Washington, losing star left tackle Laremy Tunsil for perhaps the season, while dealing with other nagging injuries. The Commanders’ recent injury woes, specifically along the offensive line, have impacted how they’re viewed.

Sept. 7, 2026, 6:06 a.m. ET It was the 2024 Washington Commanders draft. The Commanders had just used their fifth-round selection (139) on Temple linebacker Jordan Magee. The Commanders’ front office and coaches were happy about the selection of Magee. It was revealed that the front office was in consensus that if Magee was available, they wanted to select him. The 6-foot-1, 228-pound linebacker was athletic, and the Commanders thought he had a high ceiling in front of him for more development.

Sept. 7, 2026, 5:09 a.m. ET Taylor Heinicke wasn’t with the Washington Commanders long, but he certainly made a strong impression during his three years with the franchise. Signed off the couch late in the 2020 season as Washington’s emergency “COVID” quarterback, Heinicke made his debut in a Week 16 game.

The Washington Commanders were about to kick off their 2025 season amid much excitement and high expectations due to their surprisingly spectacular 12-5 2024 season. That season had seen Washington win six contests on their last possession of the game. You couldn’t count them out of games.

Sept. 7, 2026, 3:01 a.m. ET The LSU Tigers are currently the villains of college football. That’s sort of what happens when you hire Lane Kiffin. Last month, LSU entered a battle with one of the only three Heisman Trophy winners in the school’s history: current Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels was reportedly upset that LSU gave out his No. 5 jersey so quickly after he departed following the 2023 season.

Sept. 6, 2026, 9:30 a.m. ET After the Washington Commanders’ organizational implosion under Dan Snyder’s ownership, Josh Harris set out to revamp the entire organization. But he knew he couldn’t do it alone, so he brought in Adam Peters as general manager and Dan Quinn as head coach to help refine the coaching staff and revamp the roster. In 2024, Peters and Quinn did a fantastic job of changing the culture of the Commanders’ locker room and bringing in players who could help the team win games.
