While the government has re-opened, Dodge is assuming that Census’ data releases will remain delayed in the interim.
Dodge Momentum Index Gained 10% in June
Substantial growth in data center planning drives commercial momentum BEDFORD, M.A. – July 9, 2024 — The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), issued by Dodge Construction Network, increased by 10.4% in June to 198.6 (2000=100) from the revised May reading of 179.9. Over the month, commercial planning increased 14.5% and institutional planning ticked up 0.2%.
Construction Starts Increase 10% in May
Gains in utilities, single family, warehouse and education provide solid momentum BEDFORD, MA —June 20, 2024 — Total construction starts rose 10% in May to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.24 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonbuilding starts gained an impressive 49% during the month, driven by the start of an offshore wind project and an LNG facility, while residential starts lost 7% and nonresidential building starts were down 2%.

Over the month, commercial planning progressed 5.5% and institutional planning slowed by 3.4%.

Construction Starts gain 6% in April
April’s increase reverses two months of decline BEDFORD, MA —May 16, 2024 — Total construction starts rose 6% in April to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.13 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts gained 17%, nonbuilding starts were 4% higher, while residential starts slipped 1%. On a year-to-date basis through April total construction starts were up 13% from the first four months of 2023.

Data center projects dominated planning activity over the month BEDFORD, M.A. – May 7, 2024 — The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), issued by Dodge Construction Network, increased 6.1% in April to 173.9 (2000=100) from the revised March reading of 164.0. Over the month, commercial planning improved 12.6% and institutional planning dropped 6.3%.

Gains in single family and infrastructure starts were not enough to offset nonresidential building weakness BEDFORD, MA —April 23, 2024 — Total construction starts fell 1% in March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $1.06 trillion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Nonresidential building starts fell 9%, while nonbuilding starts improved by 7%, and residential starts moved 1% higher.

Institutional planning faces sizable correction from weaker R&D lab planning BEDFORD, M.A. – April 5, 2024 — The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI), issued by Dodge Construction Network, fell 8.6% in March to 164.0 (2000=100) from the revised February reading of 179.5. Over the month, commercial planning fell 3.2% and institutional planning dropped 17.2%. “In 2023, commercial planning decreased while institutional planning notably improved, sitting 29% above year-ago levels in February 2024.
