Control Design
VerifiedMagazine
Control Design covers the implementation of automation components and systems in equipment built for manufacturing and industrial processing. Machine builders and system integrators use industrial controls and associated instrumentation and infrastructure to automate the manipulation of physical objects into higher-value assemblies and configurations as well as the processing of raw materials into substances of greater value. Mencom’s entry level DIN-rail-mount unmanaged Ethernet switches are designed for most of the simple network topologies. With IP30 rating, all of the unmanaged switches are certified for industrial EMC (EN61000-6-4 and EN61000-6-2) and support redundant power-input for enhanced safety that can be connected simultaneously to a wide range of dc power sources. If one of the power inputs fails, the other live source acts as a backup to provide the power needs automatically.
Siemens expands 5G to US and 7 additional countries
Siemens is bringing its industrial-grade private 5G infrastructure to the United States and seven additional countries. The expansion is enabled by two new radio units covering the 3.8–4.2 GHz band and the US-specific CBRS band bringing the solution to a total of 15 countries across Europe and the Americas.
Metz M12 X-code field-installable jacks and plugs
Engineered for demanding robotic and industrial applications, Metz's M12 X-code field‑installable jacks and plugs are designed for reliable 10 Gbit/s Ethernet performance. Their design, stability and tool‑free, reusable construction is designed to make on‑site assembly fast and dependable.
Joint industry perspective released by the Industrial Security Harmonization Group (ISHG)
The Industrial Security Harmonization Group (ISHG) has released a joint industry perspective highlighting a critical truth in industrial cybersecurity: secure communication is not determined by protocols alone, but by how they are deployed and managed in real-world environments.
Fundamentals of proximity sensors: inductive vs. capacitive vs. PIR
My first exposure to proximity switches was after college as a design-and-build engineer at a fiber optics plant. The switches were end-of-travel and home switches on linear slides of a production machine. I then noticed that they were being used for door-lock indication, speed detection of flywheels and gears and many other use cases throughout the different manufacturing lines.
Phoenix Contact NearFi couplers
Phoenix Contact NearFi is a contactless real-time transmission technology. NearFi couplers can transmit up to 50 W of power and 100 megabits of data per second, all without physical contact. NearFi couplers can replace plug-in connectors and slip rings in high-wear-and-tear applications. When transmitting data alone, NearFi can communicate across an air gap of 40 mm. Power and data together or just power can be transmitted across an air gap of 12 mm.
Epson enters distribution alliance with Clayton Controls
Epson Robots, SCARA robot manufacturer, entered into a strategic alliance with Clayton Controls to deliver automation to the southwest region. “Our business philosophy is to understand our customers’ unique challenges and develop automated solutions that will increase productivity with our knowledge, experience and an extensive product portfolio to meet those needs,” said Chris Brown, vice president and general manager, Clayton Controls, which has been in operation for 60 years.
SoftPLC edge gateway
SoftPLC Gateways can be user-configured to support a mix of industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, ModbusTCP, Modbus, DF1, Allen-Bradley Remote I/O (RIO) or Data Highway Plus (DH+), as well as internet protocols like MQTT and HTTP, allowing data to be sent from the manufacturing location to the cloud, commonly called edge computing.
