Control Engineering’s parent company, WTWH Media, today announced it has rebranded as Arrowfly. The new name and identity reflect the company’s transformation from a specialized trade publisher into an omnichannel B2B media, events, and marketing company where hard-to-reach professional decision-makers gather for trusted journalism, industry intelligence, and high-impact experiences that move their markets forward.
Motion feedback encoder squeezes into limited space
Mechatronics and Motion Control Industrial Encoder Corporation has introduced the Industrial Encoder IH520 Series, a slim incremental hollow shaft encoder designed for motion feedback, limited-space installations and integration in industrial automation systems. The IH520 combines a low axial profile with flange mounting and hollow shaft construction to support installation and assembly in limited-space applications. It provides motion feedback for industrial environments.
New compact I/O modules bring more wiring choices to PLC racks
CPU with 50MB of user memory Support for Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP and MQTT(S) communication AutomationDirect has added I/O modules for the AutomationDirect Productivity2000 PLC series. The new combination I/O modules integrate multiple input and output points in one module, which may reduce panel space and system cost.
High tech vision unit supports industrial inspection
Vision and Discrete Sensors Beckhoff’s Vision Unit Illuminated (VUI) is a compact machine vision unit that combines a camera, illumination and liquid lens focusable optics in one device. The VUI series has been expanded to include 16 new devices. Updates include additional functionality, image sensors and crossed polarizing filters. The VUI is designed for industrial use in machine building and manufacturing. The product portfolio now includes 16 additional devices with Sony Pregius S image sensors.
AI Is Changing PLC Programming. Unitronics making It Practical.
Unitronics new built-in AI turns control requirements into working PLC logic — without asking engineers to become AI experts, and it actually delivers. For engineers who design and specify control systems — whether for a production line or a building’s mechanical room — the bottleneck hasn’t changed in decades: someone has to translate requirements into working control logic, line by line.
Latest automation mergers, June 2026: System integration, flow controls, robotics
Control Engineering provides summaries of mergers, acquisitions and capital transactions summaries by the Bundy Group. Courtesy: WTWH Media In the June 2026 monthly report to Control Engineering website, the Bundy Group, which helps with mergers, acquisitions and raising capital, reported 15 transactions. Companies included in the Bundy Group June 2026 reports include Accenture, Framatome, GE Vernova, Mach Machines, Neura Robotics among others.
PID spotlight, part 30: How to shape PID controller response – integrating processes
An appropriately slow setpoint ramp can move an integrating process to a new value without an undue disturbance to the rest of the process. A setpoint filter can still allow a significant disturbance to the rest of the process after a setpoint change. However, properly set a setpoint filter will prevent the process variable from overshooting the new setpoint even when the controller is aggressively tuned.
Long-range sensing: inductive sensor supports flush mounting
Vision and Discrete Sensors Keyence Corporation of America has introduced the Keyence ER series inductive proximity sensor for industrial detection applications where impact, abrasion and contamination can affect sensor performance. The series includes an ultra-long-distance model with a detecting range up to four times that of conventional models, allowing installation farther from the target to help reduce physical damage and false detection caused by vibration or misalignment.
Assessment of harmonic mitigation for medium-voltage systems
Figure 1: Overview of the industrial automation, control panel fabrication, flow control, robotics, system integration in the wastewater treatment plants: Wastewater treatment plants suffer major losses from poor power quality that results from VFD harmonics. IEEE 519 requires a THD below 5%. Reportedly, the 24‑pulse drives meet compliance easily, while filters help mitigate distortion in lower‑pulse systems.
Control Engineering hot topics: June 2026
The most-read stories from May and June reflect an industry in transition, balancing technical mastery with the rise of autonomous operations. While readers remained deeply engaged with core engineering topics, including PID performance limits and power quality fundamentals, there was a clear surge in interest regarding how AI and digital twins are moving from theory to measurable application.
