Corning City Pool extends Summer Schedule Corning’s Teddy Pohler Memorial Pool at Northside Park at 1414 Colusa Street has extended its season to Aug. 29. Admission to the pool is free.

CORNING – Men and women from the area who have served in uniform got answers about the progress of the Corning Veterans Memorial Hall when two Tehama County supervisors attended a special informational meeting on Aug. 4. Held at Corning City Hall, the gathering opened with veteran Dean Blankenship thanking supervisors Matt Hansen and Greg Jones for showing up to answer mounting questions from the community.

CORNING – Neighbors helping neighbors, it’s what community is all about. Jordan and Michelle Schneider, owners of Corning Grocery Outlet, recently partnered with The Food Pantry, a ministry of New Life Corning, to help them make the most of a grant the food pantry recently received. “We’re so thankful for organizations like The Food Pantry that work hard to help individuals and families right here in our community,” said Jordan.

CORNING – Crews from CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit and the Corning Volunteer Fire Department were able to contain a fire that destroyed a structure and heavily damaged an RV. CAL FIRE says at around 1:33 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, firefighters were dispatched to the area of HWY 99W and Rice Creek Lane in Corning after receiving a report of a structure fire. According to CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit, four engines, two water tenders, and three overhead personnel responded to the fire.

DAIRYVILLE – Locals are invited to start the morning right with a plateful of steaming pancakes and syrup at the Dairyville Community Club’s 56th Annual Breakfast and Meeting on Sunday, Aug. 30. The get-together happens from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lassen View School, which is located at 10818 Highway 99 East. The breakfast includes hot-off-the-griddle flapjacks, farm-fresh eggs, bacon, nut toppings, Sunsweet dried plums, coffee milk, and orange juice.

CORNING – There will be no shortage of school spirit on display at the next Corning Tuesday Night Market. Put on by the Corning Chamber of Commerce and Corning City Recreation Department, the event goes down on Sept. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. on Solano Street between Third and Sixth streets.

CORNING – The Maywood Women’s Club will once again open its doors for the Annual Friendship Tea event from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2. The Corning group has a 124-year history of making a difference in Olive City. With a clubhouse on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s reportedly the longest-lasting women’s club in the state to still be meeting in the same location.

CORNING – Corning High School has released an updated football field maintenance schedule. On Monday, the football field was treated with Green+ER and will be CLOSED to all school teams, clubs, and community use. Because the product can stain clothing and shoes, the field requires about 48 hours of off-time after application. “We apologize for the changes to the schedule and appreciate everyone's flexibility and cooperation,” the school said.

Felony Arrests Edger Castro, 44, of Willows, was arrested on Aug. 19 by the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Glenn County Jail on suspicion of failure to appear on felony charges and petty theft. Alberto Melesiomolina, 31, of Orland, was arrested on Aug.

CORNING – While photos posted on social media looked scary, it only took firefighters 30 minutes to contain a vegetation fire burning near Liberal Avenue on Tuesday afternoon around 5:45 p.m. According to CAL FIRE Tehama-Glenn Unit, firefighters from CAL FIRE and the Corning Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched after receiving a report of a vegetation fire. The Corning Police Department and the California Highway Patrol, Red Bluff Area Office, assisted with the response.
