The Trust is pleased to confirm Launceston Minor Injury Unit will once again be open 7 days a week. The increase in hours will take effect from Saturday 4 April 2026. 8 months after the decision to reduce the unit's opening hours to ensure patient and staff safety, the Trust has delivered on its commitment to return the unit to its core hours. Alongside the minor injury unit, x-ray services will be available 6 days a week. X-ray will be open Sunday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

A member of our Resuscitation Team has urged staff who are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to download an app which alerts the nearest responders to nearby cardiac arrests - after she was recently involved in resuscitating a member of the public via the app. Kate Hawkins is our acute deterioration and resuscitation lead. Last year she downloaded an app to her phone called GoodSAM Responder.

The Duke of Cornwall has officially opened the new Isles of Scilly Health and Care Partnership. His Royal Highness described the hospital wing, care home building, and integrated model of care as a "blueprint for how to do it." Trust, NHS, adult social care, and Council of the Isles of Scilly colleagues gathered for the special event on Friday 22 May 2026. Prince William was given a tour of the site. This included the new maternity suite, minor injury unit, inpatient ward, and care home.

With childhood obesity on the rise, a mental health support team manager for the Trust has begun research trials which looks at ways to tackle the problem. In the UK today, 36% of children are overweight. That figure is expected to rise to 41% by 2034. Grace Cloke is a mental health support team manager for the Trust. For almost 2 years, Grace has been studying for a doctorate. Her study focuses on childhood obesity. It is called the 'mind power and healthy lifestyle study'.

A nature-based activity group which aims to improve people's mental health is continuing to have a positive impact on those attending since it was launched last year. The Trust's Dementia and Older Persons Mental Health Team introduced 'Nature for Health' last July. It began as a 6-week pilot. But after proving a huge success, sessions are now held all-year round. After the current 8-week programme, sessions will run weekly from April.

When Margaret developed a severe lower respiratory tract infection, she was not able to manage basic daily activities at home. Rather than being taken to hospital, a paramedic engaged Cornwall's Integrated Frailty Support Service. This triggered a rapid, coordinated response. The frailty team carried out a same day holistic assessment. They arranged support from across the local neighbourhood network. They arranged urgent care through the CHAOS care agency for daily support.

This week, 3 newly elected Governors attended their first Council of Governors meeting. Their attendance follows their recent election by Trust members to represent local communities. Foundation Trust Governors play a vital role in ensuring NHS organisations remain accountable to the public. They represent the views of members and local people in key decisions. The new Governors bring a broad mix of expertise to the role; from professional expertise to lived experience.

The importance of basic life support training was highlighted recently when a Trust practitioner answered a call for help following a cardiac arrest emergency, just hours after attending a basic life support or BLS training course. Liam Button is the infection prevention lead practitioner for the Trust. He recently took part in a basic life support training session for Trust staff. The training was delivered by Kate Hawkins.

St Austell Community Hospital's Minor Injury Unit (MIU) has been given a major upgrade. The unit now has a larger waiting area, 2 bays that can hold 4 beds at a time, and 3 new treatment rooms. It is also celebrating 3 new murals. These murals were made possible thanks to the long standing support of the St Austell Community Hospital League of Friends.

The outdoor areas of Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital and Longreach House will be given a new lease of life this summer - thanks to a grant through the Queen's Institute of Community Nursing (QICN). The project is part of the Elsie Wagg (Innovation) Scholarship and is funded by the National Garden Scheme. These nurse-led projects promote the health benefits of gardening and those who visit them.
