For children living with cancer or other serious illness, creating spaces where they can simply be kids can make a real difference. Today, Chris Malette, Member of Parliament for Bay of Quinte, and Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport) and Member of Parliament for Burlington North-Milton West,   announced more than $27 million in federal funding to build a new medically-supported overnight camp for children living with cancer or serious illness.

Several councillors at Wednesday’s planning and development committee meeting (the last for this term of council) were not comfortable with allowing the developer so much more time to start the development.

Residents and visitors are advised to call the fire department directly at 613.476.2345 if they require fire assistance. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising the public to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1.888.310.1122, which remains in service, if they are unable to call 911 and require emergency police services. OPP continues to respond to calls for service during this outage.

The Prince Edward County OPP is continuing its support of the annual Adopt-A-Child Keep Kids Warm Program, a community partnership dedicated to providing new winter clothing for local children. “Every child deserves to be warm this winter. Through the continued support of our community partners and volunteers, this program helps ensure local children have the winter clothing they need to stay safe, comfortable, and ready to enjoy the season,” said Const.

As students across Prince Edward County are back to school, the Library is excited to continue help support learning in new and continuing ways. Class visits to a nearby local branch are a great example. Students – of all ages – can visit the public library, receive their library membership, and learn about the many offerings available to them. Library staff can read stories, give tours, demonstrate complicated makerspace equipment and more – all targeted to the age of the students.
