New York, July 6—The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Kenyan authorities to investigate the attempt by heavily armed men to snatch The Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich from his car, days after the president criticized the media house, and ensure that those behind the incident are brought to justice.

Ciudad de México, 4 de julio de 2026 — Las autoridades mexicanas deben investigar de manera creíble y transparente el asesinato de la periodista Roxana Berenice Guzmán Rodríguez, determinar si su secuestro y homicidio estuvieron relacionados con su labor periodística, y llevar a los responsables ante la justicia, declaró este sábado el Comité para la Protección de los Periodistas (CPJ, por sus siglas en inglés).

Mexico City, July 4, 2026 — Mexican authorities must credibly and transparently investigate the killing of journalist Roxana Berenice Guzmán Rodríguez, determine whether her abduction and killing were related to her work as a journalist, and bring her killers to justice, the Committee to Protect Journalists said Saturday.

Abuja, July 3, 2026—The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Nigerian authorities to urgently investigate Wednesday’s seizure of Secret Reporters journalist Stanley Ugagbe by two armed men in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, and secure his safe return. “Nigerian authorities must swiftly investigate the whereabouts of journalist Stanley Ugagbe, ensure his immediate safety, and hold those responsible for his disappearance to account,” said CPJ Africa Director Angela Quintal.

New York, July 2, 2026—The Committee to Protect Journalists calls on Pakistan’s media regulator to immediately lift its 15-day suspension of Geo News’ broadcast license after the news network was reprimanded over ​content aired during a program marking Muharram, one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) board of directors voted on Wednesday to affirm the organization’s existing definition of who is a journalist and rejected claims it planned to change its definition to exclude particular groups. “CPJ frequently considers its definition of a journalist, including a review that took place in 2025 led by CPJ staff and the board’s Policy Task Force,” CPJ board Chair Jacob Weisberg said in a statement.

São Paulo, July 1, 2026—The Committee to Protect Journalists welcomes an unprecedented June 30 court decision that sentenced a former judge and an ex-general to five years in prison for illegally spying on independent journalist Mauricio Weibel Barahona as he was investigating corruption in the Chilean army. Weibel’s investigation,  “Milicogate: The Great Theft from the Copper Reserve Fund” was first published in 2015 by The Clinic newspaper.
