In May, Trump’s Justice Department launched fraud charges against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which had recruited individuals to investigate and expose the Ku Klux Klan and other racist, anti-Semitic groups, including Aryan Nations and the National Alliance, a continuation of the “American Nazi Party.” The SPLC exposés and lawsuits against these groups since 1980 helped to discredit and bankrupt many of them.

A specter is haunting the United States — the specter of the Housing Crisis! Over the past few decades, and especially after the 2008 Great Recession and the Covid-19 Pandemic, the skyrocketing cost of housing has become a central political concern. Both Republican and Democratic administrations have acknowledged the growing crisis and both have put forward purported solutions to resolve it.

The 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties The 24th International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties (IMCWP) convened in Havana, Cuba, from Aug. 7-8, 2026. Hosted by the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), the meeting brought together over 100 delegates representing 49 communist and workers’ parties from around the world, including the Communist Party USA.

Trump has already pressured Congress to pass the SAVE America Act before the rapidly approaching midterm elections and even went so far as to refuse to sign the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. The act became law after 10 days absent his signature. He made his signature conditional on the passage of the SAVE America Act. He held the housing bill hostage. The SAVE America Act is designed to obstruct communities, in particular those of Tribal Nations, from exercising their right to vote.

The November 2026 midterm elections are rapidly approaching with the force of a hurricane. As Communist Party USA co-chair Joe Sims recently told the National Committee, “everything revolves around defeating the MAGA forces,” including labor rights, civil rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, the environment, peace, and democracy itself. The fascist danger, the “whiff” from the Gus Hall period, is no longer a warning.

There is no objective way to measure whether the Supreme Court has become more political than judicial. But several observable trends have led scholars, journalists, and the public across the political spectrum to conclude that politics plays a larger role on the Court than in earlier periods. Patterns in voting often fall along ideological lines in recent years.

The United States, eighty-one years ago, carried out a surprise nuclear attack on the people of Hiroshima. Three days later, it dropped an even more powerful nuclear device on Nagasaki. Between the initial blasts, subsequent firestorms, and acute radiation exposure, the two bombs killed over 200,000 people by the end of 1945. Those who survived carried psychological and physical scars, including a vastly increased susceptibility to cancer.
