Three-dimensional shapes can now be reproduced accurately by 3D printing. But printing very small details, such as tiny blood vessels, tissues, and organs, remains difficult. To do this, printers need extremely narrow nozzles, which are hard and expensive to make. Borrowing from nature The fast-growing field of biomimetics takes inspiration from nature. But a team of engineers and biologists from McGill University in Montreal and Drexel University in Philadelphia went further.
Honey
Fig 1: Gathering Honey, Tomb of Rekhmire who served under Thutmose III. Facsimile by Nina de Garis Davies (1881–1965)4 In A.A. Milne’s classic stories, the bear Winnie-the-Pooh always had his priorities in order—an order of one, ‘Hunny!’ This was a good order, but not for the reason he supposed. He was unaware of the wonderful medicinal properties of raw1 honey. From the earliest post-Flood times, ancient near-eastern cultures believed that honey was a gift from the gods.
Relative proportion of prebiotic amino acids: part 3—experiments using reduced gas mixtures
Evolutionists believe the prebiotic atmosphere would have consisted primarily of CO2/N2 or CO/N2, along with H2O. Key Miller-type experiments reported in the literature on mixtures of highly oxidized gases using spark discharge to mimic the energetic effects of lightning produced only trace amounts of amino acids (AAs), primarily glycine. Even when high concentrations of the reducing gases CH4 or H2 were added, usually ~99.5% of the proteinogenic AAs produced were glycine and alanine.
The Mysterious Megalodon · Podcasts
The megalodon was the ocean’s greatest predator: a shark up to three times the size of a great white, with a bite force ten times stronger. Known almost entirely from its fossilised teeth, this giant has inspired Hollywood blockbusters and genuine scientific debate over its true size. But what did it eat before the Fall, and why did such a formidable creature vanish? Nathan Brewer traces the evidence back to Genesis for answers Hollywood never gives.
Comets—portents of doom or indicators of youth?
Comets have long fascinated (and often horrified) mankind. They seem to come from nowhere, and disappear just as suddenly. Their tails seem to dwarf other heavenly bodies. Anatomy of a comet: Looking ‘inside’ a comet shows just how they are made up. A small icy core is the fuel for a massive and often spectacular ‘tail’ seen to flow from the head of a comet. Eventually, the nucleus will lose all its mass as it orbits the sun and ceases to exist.
Global Flood Stories Everywhere & Why It Matters
Wednesday 06, May 202638:25 Could 500 cultures worldwide all be remembering the same event? Explore striking similarities in flood legends from Fiji to the Amazon. These shared memories are more than folklore; they point toward a single, world-altering truth. Examine geological fingerprints like Grand Canyon erosion and the Ark’s seaworthy design. Uncover the deep link between this ancient judgment and the hope of salvation.
Lucy the hairy hominid, and origin of human nudity
Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis) is without doubt one of the most famous fossil hominids (alleged human ancestors) of all. If asked to picture her, most people would call to mind a hairy, strong-armed, tree-dwelling creature, capable of walking on two feet and ape-like. It is over 50 years since the discovery of Lucy’s fossil remains by Donald Johanson and his team.
Amber needed water (and lots of it)
Fossil amber (tree resin) has been found all over the world, containing well-preserved insects (and even identifiable microbes in the insect’s gut1), flowers, moss, snails, lizards, bird feathers and mammal hair.
Feeding of 5,000 explained?
A paper published on fish kills 1 in Lake Kinneret (Galilee) claims to explain the miraculous catch of fish (John 21) and the feeding of 5,000 with five loaves and two fish (Luke 9). Note that when fish float to the surface after dying from lack of oxygen, they are already rotting. It’s nice that the researchers acknowledge the historicity of the biblical accounts; they really happened. However, they deny the miracles.
Relative proportion of prebiotic amino acids: part 2—models to form highly reduced atmospheres
Most Miller-type experiments have used highly reduced gas mixtures no longer considered to reflect the composition of a prebiotic atmosphere. Speculative models have been reviewed for evolutionary mechanisms to produce favourable reducing atmospheres. These involved enormous theoretical impactors able to deliver gases such as CH4, NH3, CO, and H2, and/or also a high iron content able to convert all, or most, terrestrial water into reducing H2.
