Otshepeng highlighted that her central idea was that every digital-government policy must eventually meet a machine.

Officials say CSIR-developed dashboard helps direct traffic and rapid response CSIR researchers developed a dashboard and mapping tool to assist Limpopo’s Department of Transport and Community Safety (DTCS) with data-driven service delivery. The tool, now handed over to the province, gives officials a bird's-eye view of road incidents like crashes, pedestrian-related accidents, taxi transport patterns and speeding. A heatmap of all road incidents in Limpopo reported during 2025.

Government Aerospace and Defence Agency marks 20 years
On Thursday, 17 September 2026, the Aerospace Industry Support Initiative (AISI) will mark 20 years of supporting South Africa’s aerospace, defence, marine and advanced manufacturing industries during the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) 2026 Exhibition. AISI was established in 2006 as a strategic initiative of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) to strengthen the competitiveness, sustainability and growth of South Africa’s aerospace and defence industry.

Pretoria, South Africa, 31 August 2026 – The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the German Development Bank (KfW) have signed a grant agreement to strengthen biomanufacturing capabilities in southern Africa through the establishment of the Southern African Biomanufacturing Training Hub. The grant is provided by the European Union as part of its Global Gateway flagship project: “Manufacturing and Access to Vaccines, Medicines and Health Technologies”.
