Recognised as one of the leading sustainability events in Central and Eastern Europe, the ESG Ideas Fair brings together business leaders, sustainability professionals, experts, innovators, and changemakers to explore the evolving role of sustainability in business and society.

In 2024, CSR Europe and the Fair Tax Foundation launched the Tax Responsibility and Transparency Index (TRTI), allowing multinational businesses to benchmark themselves against high-bar civil society frameworks, pending legislation and pioneering companies in five key areas of tax conduct. From the outset, the European Business Tax Forum (EBTF) was a key stakeholder in the development of the TRTI, alongside civil society, academia and investors.

The session opened with a contribution from a senior EU official discussing the current EU-China trade relations, which were described at a historic low, with bilateral dialogue yielding little progress. China continues to dismiss EU concerns while actively encouraging foreign companies to localise production and pursue self-reliance, a dynamic that is deepening European corporate exposure and dependencies on Chinese resources.

What We Are Seeing Across Companies Many organisations have made meaningful progress on sustainability. Yet most continue to face the same persistent challenges. There remains a strong focus on compliance and risk mitigation, with limited connection to revenue, performance, or competitiveness.
