CSUDH Associate Professor of History Kerry Shannon on the streets of Tokyo, Japan. Associate Professor of History Kerry Shannon will spend the next six months in Japan as a winner of a 2026-27 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award. Shannon plans to use much of the time working on his particular research interest: the history of the toilet in modern Japan. While abroad, he will be studying the design, economic, and public health history of the device, with plans to write a monograph about his findings.

Source: L.A. Sentinel While competing for the men’s basketball team, California State University, Dominguez Hills sophomore Promise Madubugwu is working to become a radiologist. Madubugwu is a biology major. He noted how being a student athlete means having more responsibilities than an average student and finding ways to balance them all. “I believe that biology is a good thing for a doctorate,” Madubugwu said. “A radiologist is a very technical job and deals with the bone.

On September 2, California State University, Dominguez Hills officially added cycling to its multiple championship-winning Athletics program with the signing of its first student-cyclist, Alejandro Che. The new varsity collegiate cycling program—the only one of its kind in California—joins 20 others nationwide.

I hope you enjoyed your summer, and that you are ready for a fantastic semester here at CSUDH, because we have so much to be excited about as we start the academic year. Between newly opened facilities, fresh faces on campus, and upcoming opportunities to gather together, the reasons to be proud of this university keep growing. The CSUDH Office of Academic Affairs released the list of the faculty members who have been granted tenure and/or promotions by Interim President Mary Ann Villarreal for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. In all, 32 individuals were promoted and/or granted tenure, including faculty from all five CSUDH colleges and the University Library.

With the opening of a new student residence hall and dining commons, CSUDH Move-In Day was bigger and more exciting than ever this year. Almost 1,000 Toro students moved into their on-campus homes on Thursday, Aug. 20, and Saturday, Aug. 22, not letting the heat outside dampen their enthusiasm for a moment. The excitement and anticipation were shared among students and the loved ones and friends helping them move into their new homes.

Source: Daily Breeze More than 200 Cal State Dominguez Hills freshmen moved into a new dorm building on Thursday, Aug. 20 — with the 2026-27 academic year only a few days away. New students and their parents spent Thursday exploring the campus, taking in both the historic and new facilities, before classes officially start on Monday, Aug. 24.

Dear Toro Community, As we approach the first day of classes for the Fall Semester, I hope you feel the same excitement that I do about this coming year. We have made great progress as a university in many areas, and I look forward to building on that momentum.
