Following the 2024 election, many progressives thought they could work with the Trump administration on antitrust policy. Their optimism stemmed from the many pro-Trump policymakers and advocates, including JD Vance, who supported a more aggressive use of antitrust enforcement than had been rationally advanced by conservative Republicans.

The good news for Iowa’s cottontail rabbit hunters is that Iowa’s 2026 rabbit population is unchanged from last year and the 2025 season was the highest in more than a decade. The better news for hunters is Iowa’s cottontail rabbit season begins Sept. 5 statewide.

Keokuk High School is hosting the Inaugural Battle of 218 volleyball match against the Central Lee Lady Hawks Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at Wright Fieldhouse. JV warmups will be on the south court. Spectators can enter from the fieldhouse entrance located on the southside of the U-drive. Admissions is $6 for adults and students. Cash only will be accepted. The format of the matches will consist of best of three to 25 (rally scoring) with a third set if necessary for 9th and JV.

CARTHAGE, Ill. – Memorial Medical Clinics is pleased to announce the addition of a second behavioral health mobile unit, Memorial Medical Clinic Mobile. The original mobile unit launched in the fall of 2024 and served seven local schools. Due to increased demand, a second unit is launching in the fall of 2026, and together the two mobile units will serve 13 school locations throughout the region. Additionally, the program has grown from one provider to three providers to meet the needs of patients.

WILTON- The Central Lee Lady Hawks traveled to Wilton High School Tuesday night after the tournament was moved from Wapello High School to Wilton High School where they participated in matches against the Holy Trinity Lady Crusaders, Wilton Lady Beavers, and Columbus Lady Wildcats. They fell to Holy Trinity 9-21, 11-21 and Wilton 9-21, 10-21 before bouncing back to beat Columbus 21-9, 13-21, 15-4. Brylee Cook was in the middle of it all for CLHS with five aces, 12 digs, six kills, and 16 assists.

DONNELLSON – Beverly Ort, 78, of Donnellson, Iowa, died at 6:11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Arrangements are pending with Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

Gov. Kim Reynolds joined state law enforcement and public health officials Tuesday in warning Iowans of the risks associated with kratom and its newer, synthetic variants. Kratom is typically marketed as a natural or herbal supplement for pain and anxiety, and is commonly sold in liquid, capsule and powdered form at gas stations and convenience stories. At Tuesday’s press conference, Reynolds and others stressed that the product’s availability does not equate to safety.

AUGUSTA, IL- So far the West Hancock Lady Titans volleyball team has fit nicely at the Lady Suns Classic at Southeastern High School. The Lady Titans beat Brown County on Monday and earned a 25-21, 25-15 in two sets against the Beardstown Lady Tigers Tuesday night. Grace Grothaus led the Lady Titans with nine kills and added two digs, and one ace. Lauren Stevenson had four kills, and one block. Laney Pfeiferling led West Hancock with 15 assists, and three aces which also led the team.

BURLINGTON- For the second time this season the Keokuk Lady Chiefs battled the Burlington Grayhounds on the volleyball court Tuesday night at Burlington High School. After falling to BHS last week in the Central Lee Invitational, the two teams met again. Unfortunately, the results were no different as KHS fell 9-25, 12-25, 14-25. Offensively, the Lady Chiefs had 16 kills on the night. Carrigan Morris had six of them. Lizzy Mason was close behind with five, Brinklee Altgibers finished with three.
