WARSAW, Ill. – Cathleen "Kay" Melinda Cameron, 68 of Warsaw, Illinois (formerly of Hamilton, Illinois), passed away Thursday, July 16, 2026, while in the Carthage hospital. She was born March 13, 1958, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Clarence and Barbara (Squires) Cameron. She was unmarried. She is survived by her siblings, Perry Cameron of Carthage, Illinois, David (Marie) Cameron of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Patrick Cameron of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Deirdre “Dee” (Tamara) Cameron of Gladstone, Missouri.

When baseball starts next season, things will look different for the Keokuk Chiefs. KHS head coach Ryan Bell confirmed that due to a new job opportunity he is stepping down after one season at the helm. He was previously an assistant coach at KHS from 2019-2025 before taking over for Steve Worster. He led the Chiefs to a (1-23) record this season where they fell in the Class 3A Substate 5 Quarterfinal against Solon. After accepting another position, it wasn’t an easy decision to move on.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military on Monday identified two soldiers killed in action last week as part of the war with Iran. The Defense Department said in a statement that 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, were killed in Jordan, where they were supporting a U.S. mission against the Islamic State group. It’s unclear how they were killed.

DONNELLSON- Friday night at Lee County Speedway the dirt was flying on a hot night. In the INCA Late Models A Feature, Jay Johnson of West Burlington won the 25-lap race. He started the race in second. Jake Griffin of Quincy, Illinois started 10th and moved up eight spots to finish second. Tommy Elston of Keokuk also made a strong push toward the front finishing third after starting ninth. Jeremy Pundt from Donnellson finished ninth.

The city of Keokuk budgets about $200,000 per year to take down dilapidated properties. Several come down every year. At the Keokuk City Council’s regular meeting on Thursday, the council approved a measure to allow the mayor and city clerk to submit a grant application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority for a forgivable loan of $270,000 that could also be used for nuisance and abandoned property remediation on top of what was already budgeted.
