It is September 11 as I type this and I am writing this Weekly Whatever column in an attempt to keep my eyes off the internet. I know we have collectively become largely desensitized to The Events over the last 25 years but seeing photos from that day still has the power to make me feel rotten. I hate it. I was close enough to Grou…

The World’s Worst Dolly Parton Lookalike Contest
I know I typically ramble on here about what’s new in punk, hardcore, emo, etc. but we are required by law to pay respects this week to the great Dolly Parton, an actual American icon. Now that she’s gone, people are asking who the most universally beloved woman in America is and I think we can all agree that her name is Hillary Ro…
An Interview with Author Andrew Sacher
Hello and welcome to ZERO CRED, the only newsletter ever to exist. Subscribe for free or upgrade for just a few bucks a month to get the weekly column, a membership card, and more. Today’s post is an interview with Andrew Sacher, author of the new book Emo Revival.Check the archive for more interviews with musicians, authors, and artists. Andrew Sacher hates that one viral music post. You know the one. It lists a dozen bands and says pick three, the others disappear forever.
More music writers to follow
Hello and welcome to ZERO CRED, Earth’s only music newsletter, by me, Dan Ozzi. A quick note that I am back home from the East Coast and have shipped all the mailorder that piled up while I was traveling. Thanks for the patience. All items are stocked in my store and for the remainder of August I am dropping the price of these beautiful ZERO CRED shirts down to just 15 bucks so that you can get your summer goth on while the sun is still nice and oppressive.
Music writers and newsletters worth following
Last week I mentioned how disappointing, albeit unsurprising, it is that Live Nation had recently gutted the staffs of the internet’s few remaining music websites. I don’t know what the future of music journalism will be. Maybe something important can rise from the ashes. But here in the present moment, the state of things is a disjointed scattering of stray writers off doing their own show and dance for their own audiences.
New York zine pickups
A photo I took of a giant bug about to wreak havoc upon New York City. Hello ZERO CRED elite. I know it sounds like I’m blowing smoke up your ass whenever I say that your continued support for independent writers like me is helping to keep music journalism alive, but… it literally is. This week, several music publications including BrooklynVegan, Alternat…
(Most of) the zines I collected this summer
Hello and welcome to ZERO CRED, earth’s only newsletter. For today’s edition of the weekly whatever column I thought I’d take a much overdue look at some of the zines that have been piling up on my desk this summer because it’s seriously getting bad over here. I’m up to my ass in zines. Speaking of zines, I do love receiving stuff in the mail, so if you wanna be post office friends, send anything to: Dan Ozzi PO Box 11352 Glendale, CA 91226 And maybe consider upgrading to a paid subscription.
Adventures in Hollywood Holes
Hello and welcome to ZERO CRED, earth’s only newsletter. This is my weekly whatever column where I write about whatever, weekly. Please consider supporting ZERO CRED by upgrading to a paid subscription which is very cheap for you and very helpful for me. I currently have all sizes stocked.
I've been dreaming about Backrooms my entire life.
Warning: Mild Backrooms spoilers ahead. My first adult apartment was a two-bedroom on the third floor of a well-kept building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This was before the area got too cool and overpriced. I shared the place with a roommate and it was pretty huge as far as New York apartments on the salaries of two fresh-out-of-college office assistants went.
