In-form mare Cavalry Girl has laid a platform to springboard into an early spring feature sprint with the best win of her career in the G3 Carlyon Stakes at Sandown. Overcoming some anxious moments in the straight, Cavalry Girl capitalised on a late inside run to complete a hat-trick of wins and record her fourth victory from her past five starts. Her recent run of form includes a Listed victory at Morphettville at the end of her three-year-old season.

Four-year-old Bootlegger underlined his consistency when stepping up to weight-for-age company with a gritty win in the Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday, 22 August. One of Adelaide’s better-performed three-year-olds last season after claiming the Listed Morphettville Guineas over 1,600m, Bootlegger took the necessary improvement to upset an open-age field over 1,400m.

Harry Angel has an exciting juvenile to look forward to for the remainder of the season, following an eyecatching victory for his daughter Angels Lane in the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes, run over five furlongs at Newbury on Friday 14 August. J J Grey made it two Stakes wins in a row after going wire-to-wire to win the $250,000 Iowa Derby by two lengths at Prairie Meadows on Saturday, 11 July. The three-year-old colt by Street Boss entered the 8.5-furlong contest off a three-and-three-quarter length win in the Prairie Mile Stakes in his most recent start. Bivouac adds new Stakes winner to his growing record on Friday as two-year-old filly Actionbelle produced a dominant performance to capture the Listed Castletown Stakes (1,200m) at Otaki. Having shown ability when placed on debut, the Ben and Ryan Foote-trained filly stepped up to Stakes company in just her second start and proved too strong, surging clear in the closing stages to score by 3½ lengths under Sam McNab.
