Here are as many local takeaways as I can muster late night from Tuesday’s midterm election. West Lafayette: Outside a vote center Tuesday morning, Angie Janes figured that the election would tell more about the direction people wanted to take with the West Lafayette school board than a more crowded race did two years ago.

The final day of early voting in Tippecanoe County came with a 45-minute wait after the noon cutoff. The tally after the first month of voting: 16,060 in-person voters, along with another 2,220 mail-in ballots, according to county election office counts Monday. Here’s what’s at stake and how to navigate things today. The Indiana Secretary of State’s portal has that. A few late campaign season story lines for you, just ahead of Tuesday’s Election Day .. A political action committee that was a lightning rod in the West Lafayette school board election two years ago is back in play late in this year’s campaign, reconstituted under a new title, with two popular retired teachers’ names attached and with a similar goal – back school board incumbents.

A few notes on a windy Saturday … WEST LAFAYETTE LOOKS TO LIMIT INTERSECTION PANHANDLING: West Lafayette Police Chief Troy Harris said the complaints started in earnest over the summer, with drivers reporting that people were walking between cars and along the medians, asking for money at the intersection of Salisbury Street and Sagamore Parkway. “It’s become a nuisance for us,” Harris told West Lafayette City Council members Thursday.

A running theme in Delphi after Richard Allen, a 50-year-old Delphi man, was charged with two counts of murder in the 2017 killings of eighth-grader Libby German and Abby Williams: Could a local attorney possibly take a case that has been so charged and weighed so heavily on the community … and still live in town? Turns out the question could have applied to a local judge, as well.

On the first day for four Tippecanoe County remote polling places, voting in the first three hours drew long lines, cycling through about a voter a minute at three Lafayette location and one West Lafayette location. Shortly after noon, the Tippecanoe County elections office sent reinforcements, with additional vote machines, to Faith West Community Center in West Lafayette and Wea Ridge Baptist Church on the southern edge of Lafayette.

Two weeks after Taletha Coles resigned as Fairfield Township trustee, hounded by accusations of mismanagement and questionable habits when spending public money, she was standing for a mug shot Wednesday at the Tippecanoe County Jail, facing 44 counts of theft, perjury, fraud and official misconduct during her four-year term.
