Morning, y’all! I hope everyone had an awesome Labor Day weekend, and I hope those who attended the game Saturday stayed hydrated, made it through the heat alright and were able to enjoy the blowout victory. In today’s newsletter, we’re going to balance talking through the season-opening dominant 63-3 win vs. Tennessee State while also looking ahead to this Saturday’s Western Kentucky game (would be super cool if we could keep the temperature out of the 100s this time).
Kyron Jones is back and ready to bring punch to Georgia defense
ATHENS -- Kirby Smart believed in Kyron Jones long ago, and nothing has changed where the senior safety is concerned. Trust in Georgia has been a theme for Jones throughout his career in Athens, and it has gone both ways from the onset. Jones, with his sub-4.4 second speed and hard-hitting abilities, returned to the starting lineup on Saturday after missing the last eight games of last season and much of the full-speed work in the spring and summer workouts after suffering a foot injury.
Georgia needs its young outside linebackers ‘better yesterday’ as injuries mount

Kirby Smart explains why improvement for Georgia isn’t guaranteed this week
ATHENS — There’s an old cliche about the biggest improvement a team makes is from its first game to its second. Kirby Smart does not subscribe to that theory. “Everybody talks about your greatest improvement from game one to game two,” the Georgia head coach said. “I don’t think that’s necessarily true, unless you make it true. And you have to learn lessons from that.“ It’s hard for things to get better after the Bulldogs opened the season with a 63-3 win over Tennessee State.
SEC opens door to remove LSU from league with amendment to federal lawsuit
The SEC filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against LSU administrators and Lane Kiffin on Tuesday, seeking the authority to have the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, school removed from the league. ESPN’s Pete Thamel has reported the SEC is not expected to expel LSU from the league, but it does want to make clear and affirm its legal right to enforce its own rules.
How the Georgia injury situation looks coming out of season-opener
ATHENS — The good news coming out of Georgia’s season-opening win is that the Bulldogs didn’t have to push anyone too hard in the 63-3 blowout. Georgia was able to get plenty of players game action and not overextend several key members of the team. Center Drew Bobo made his first start since suffering a foot injury against Georgia Tech last season. He was able to play the first five series of the game.

Georgia football rises in AP Poll Top 25 rankings for Week 2 after big win
Just one week into the season, there has been real movement in the AP Poll Top 25 rankings. Georgia now sits at No. 2 in the poll, moving up from its No. 3 slot in the preseason. Georgia beat Tennessee State of the FCS 63-3 to open the season. “I thought our guys, the message was, you know, first impression,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “And first impression of this team would be judged by how they handled the opponent and how well they played to our standard or not.
