Darren Buchanan Jr., who averaged 15.6 points last season, will return for his redshirt sophomore campaign, the forward announced via X/Twitter on Monday. Shooting 54.6% from the field, Buchanan ranked ninth in scoring in the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2023-24. His 6.6 average rebounds per game also tied for the team lead.
George Mason loses 4 as transfer portal opens
Four members of Tony Skinn’s inaugural George Mason team entered the transfer portal Monday, substantially growing the coach’s offseason to-do list. Senior guard Ronald Polite III, who averaged a fifth-best 7.5 points per game last season, as well as guards Kam Johnson, Devin Dinkins and Berke Arslan have entered the portal, according to reports.
George Mason hires Tony Skinn as head coach
A key member of George Mason’s 2006 Final Four squad will return to lead the program. Tony Skinn, an assistant coach at Maryland, is the newest Patriots head coach, the school announced Thursday. After two years, George Mason is back in the coaching carousel once again. Kim English, the head coach of the Patriots since the 2021-22 season, is finalizing a contract for the same position at Providence, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. English replaces Ed Cooley, who left Providence for the head coaching job at Georgetown on Monday.

Georgetown isn’t going far to find its next head basketball coach. Ed Cooley, who has led the conference-rival Providence Friars for the last 12 seasons, is expected to become the new head coach of the Hoyas, according to reports. No deal has been signed yet, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Cooley, 53, has led Providence since 2011, going 242-153 in that span and appearing in the NCAA Tournament seven times.
