8.8 Kylie, famous for…singing and being Australian? To be fair, I enjoyed her recent-ish collab with Sia. Her Prosecco is extra-dry. It is…it is okay? 85% Glera, the rest Pinot Noir. Smells a little strawberry shortcake, heavy on sour strawberries, with a bit of sweetened cream? Spritely, it gives strawberry tops on the palate. It grows on you, sip by sip. I still wished to pour Campari into it to underline the bitterness.

The Oscars 2025: Best Picture Pairings I heard someone say that the Academy Awards should restructure their typical format so every 15-20 minutes, a best picture nominee is eliminated. Which would be hilarious, like the Squid Game Oscars. And if only they served drinks to match the films! The following are my hot takes on the noms and what you should drink with them. In the spirit of competition, I will order these pairings from least favorite to my best picture.

9.3 Organically farmed, Feudo Montoni is located rather in the middle of the island, surrounded by grains at a goodly elevation where it makes a variety of wines from Grillo to Nero d’Avola, but I was especially charmed by the Nerello Mascalese. Utterly both gulpable and savorable, translucent ruby, light in tannins, big in herbals, giving off anise almost as if Gamay, but more herbal. As time passes, fleeting winds of smoke and earth fly through and dissipate like they were never there.

9.1 Okay, so this is actually from Tuscany and has not yet been released, but Marina is one to watch! This is vibrant, textured even, with highly present minerality, almost flinty, but all that caresses peaches and massages honeysuckle florals. 9.1 How to quantify the wine I have maybe been the most excited to try since my first (and only) DRC. Made with grapes from Iran, that makes it one of the rarest wines around. I came in both excited but also trepidatious. I was bowled over by the fact that this is both delicious and totally unique. I find it energetic af, ripe but with generous acid and tea, dust, and earth. Literally I can’t think of a grape to liken it to though. Ending slightly floral with an accent of cardamom.

8.8 Does she say “sublime”? Nah. Does she show up for a hike picnic you want to not bring a corkscrew for and also if you went into “it’s better than I’d make” food and “it’s better than…” wine. Here ya go. Rich ripe fruit. Friendly enough acid. All of it makes for a fun night in. — 3 months ago

This wine is medium dark in the glass. It shows a nose that is ripe and fresh, with plenty of juicy cherry, strawberry, plum and cassis aromas. There is a whiff of spice, but the fruit is the star of the show, which is fitting since the wine was in neutral oak for only half a year. The palate is ripe, red and fresh, with a nice tannic grip and good acidity. The idea was to produce a good everyday wine and that goal has been achieved. This wine is medium dark in the glass.

This yellow-gold wine offers a nose of citrus and minerals, with plenty of the “wet sidewalk” aroma which typifies minerality. There is also a healthy blast of orange peel, lemon and herbal. The palate, I feel, is dominated by the Grechetto grape. The Chardonnay is there, as is the Sauvignon Blanc. However, the distinctive, earthy, stone fruit flavor must be the product of the Grechetto. The acidity is as fresh as it can be, and will make this an incredibly food-friendly wine.

9.0 Ripe but underscored with fresh lawn goodness and that oomph of I dunno what but..okay it’s an asshole move for me to say I’d know it was obviously a Bordeaux blanc in a blind tasting…but also, it is SO Bordeaux blanc bringing pencils, wet grass and fun citrus all together and…ugh I love Bordeaux’s white wines — 10 days ago
