The agency says manufacturing sales rose 1.3 per cent to $78.1 billion in May. The increase came as sales of motor vehicles rose 11.8 per cent to $4.6 billion in May, while the chemical subsector saw sales gain 4.6 per cent to $5.9 billion.

Meta to build $13B data centre north of Edmonton, its first in Canada
July 10, 2026, Sturgeon County, Alta. — The tech behemoth behind Facebook and Instagram says it plans to make Alberta home to its first artificial intelligence data centre in Canada and its largest outside the United States. Meta announced Wednesday that the $13-billion-plus project is to be built in Sturgeon County, in the Industrial Heartland region north of Edmonton.

Optimism at Automate 2026
My first Automate in 2025 was held under a cloud of uncertainty. Tariffs had ground the market to a halt and Canadian-U.S. relations were significantly strained. I addition, I had entered the manufacturing industry mere weeks before the event was held, and my own lack of understanding, alongside market conditions, candidly left me wanting more from the show. This pretence is what made me so excited for Automate 2026, which took place from June 22 to 25 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.

Carney expected to announce Germany’s TKMS as winner of sub contract: reports
July 6, 2026, Canada — Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to announce Monday that Canada will buy its next fleet of submarines from Germany’s TKMS, according to multiple media reports. The announcement will bring an end to an unusually quick and intense procurement process and will mean Canada is choosing subs built by a NATO ally over South Korea’s Hanwha Oceans. The government is expected to enter into months of negotiations with TKMS to finalize details of the contract.
