Recent increases in capacity building funding have signaled a shift in how foundations, grant-making entities, and donors approach giving. Capacity building grants refer to grants made specifically to strengthen, bolster, and/or build an organization’s effectiveness and systems. This could be funding to support hard costs such as computers or new office equipment, funding for staff or programmatic training and hiring, or funds to build a website or update an online system, among other things.

In this month’s At the Helm, we spoke with Yamani Yansá Hernandez, Interim Executive Director of Groundswell Fund. Groundswell Fund is one of the largest funders of organizations led by women of color, transgender and gender-expansive people of color organizing in the United States and of the Reproductive Justice (RJ) Movement.
