Devils Lake girls’ golf has opened the 2026 season with its best team score in the young history of the program. The Firebirds posted a +93 in the season opener Friday.. It beat their previous best of +96, set late last fall. This is now the third season of Devils Lake’s revitalized golf program. The +93 ultimately ranked last out of 11 teams at Friday’s West Fargo Sheyenne Invite.

(Aug. 4, 2026) – By many measures, Americans are growing less religious: Since 2007, for example, the percentage of people who pray daily has dropped, while the “unaffiliated” have grown to 29%. Devils Lake Public School’s Middle School is getting an upgrade this summer and as the first day of school nears (Aug. 19) workers spent their Saturday morning, Aug. 8 at the school to meet their deadlines. Here we see what will be the new entrance, complete with a concrete ramp to a new “main” door (not installed yet). I’ll never tire from stressing the importance of safety because hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors is beneficial in multiple ways. (Aug. 5, 2026) – A shrinking U.S. cattle herd, driven in part by persistent drought and the New World screwworm, has forced the industry to rely more heavily on imported beef to keep up with strong demand. It’s a trend that’s been building for the past three years. The latest USDA projections show beef imports continuing to rise and exports decline through 2027. The U.S. will import 6.059 billion pounds of beef by the end of this year, up 12.5% from last year, according to projections.

(Aug. 7, 2026) – The only fair housing organization in the Dakotas is holding on until Sept. 1 for a key federal grant to arrive or it will furlough some of its staff. The North Dakota-based High Plains Fair Housing Center has been awaiting the $425,000 Fair Housing Initiatives Program grant since May. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the three-year grant in 2023, but the third installment hasn’t shown up.
