• Kirkwood Community College has released its Dean’s List for the summer 2026 semester. These students have achieved a 3.3 grade-point average or higher after completing 12 or more credit hours at the college. Donald “Don” Adair Childs, 87, of DeWitt, entered into rest Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, at Fieldstone of DeWitt. A service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026, in the Community Room at Fieldstone of DeWitt, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Mark Zevenbergen officiated. Interment and Military Honors will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at a later date. Don was born Aug.

Lennox Rose Ackley Cole and Marisa Ackley of Maquoketa are the parents of a daughter, Lennox Rose, born Sept. 2, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Birth Center. She weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces and was 20 inches long. She is welcomed by a brother, Axel, almost 5. Grandparents are Tim and Jackie Duwa of Lost Nation, and Mike and Rhonda Ackley of Wyoming. Great-grandparents are Konnie Edleman of Lost Nation, George and Rose Pearson of Center Junction, and Barb Rumsey of Marble Rock.

Clinton’s Community Resources United to Stop Heroin and other drugs, or CRUSH+, held its ninth annual Overdose and Addiction Awareness Vigil on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Riverview Park bandshell. This year’s event marked the 25th anniversary of International Overdose Awareness Day that, according to overdoseday.com, provides a global platform for resources through in-person and online events to educate, raise funding, honor individuals who have died due to drug overdoses, and explore solutions.

Last week’s data center workshop at Eagle Point Lodge in Clinton left much to say and do about Clinton’s data center zoning ordinance. So, the council’s deliberations will resume this week. After a five-hour workshop meeting during which the Clinton City Council sat at a row of tables facing representatives of Clintonians Against Data Centers at their own row of tables, another workshop has been scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 9 in the City Hall Council Chambers.

E. Dwaine Boehde, 93, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026 in Clinton. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 at Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery following a lunch at the church. Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) officially dedicated The Vetter Board Room during its Board of Trustees meeting in July, honoring the memory, service and legacy of Ellis Vetter and his son, Bill Vetter. Family members, friends and members of the EICC community attended the dedication and gathered for a reception prior to the meeting to recognize the Vetters’ years of service and contributions to the college. Together, the father and son gave decades of service to EICC.
