In July 2026, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge connecting Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Camden, New Jersey, turns 100 years old. The chief engineer of the bridge was Polish-born Ralph Modjeski, founder of the firm now known as Modjeski and Masters. When the Benjamin Franklin Bridge opened in 1926, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

The Tennessee Titans’ new Nissan Stadium, under development by Turner Construction and AECOM Hunt, is helping Nashville along the path of becoming a titan itself. “The stadium is intended to position Nashville to attract global events while serving as a long-term civic and economic asset for the region,” said Mike Gallagher, Project Executive, Turner Construction.

Across infrastructure and industrial construction projects, the size, complexity, and coordination required today look very different than they did even a few years ago. Larger scopes, tighter schedules, and increased specialization have pushed teams to their limits. Yet many organizations continue to rely on reactive staffing models, filling roles as needs arise rather than developing a clear, structured view of their internal capabilities in advance.

Technology is reshaping how contractors plan, choose, and manage rental equipment, turning the once-transactional activity of renting into a powerful lever for continuous improvement. The common thread isn’t a single software platform or digital tool but a shift toward integrated systems that provide clearer visibility and enable faster, more confident decision-making across fleets and projects.

For contractors, uptime still begins with the basics: dependable equipment, disciplined inspections, and preventive maintenance performed on schedule. But as fleets become more complex and project schedules tighten, maintenance can no longer rely on clipboards, memory, or scattered service records alone. Increasingly, contractors need connected equipment and digital tools that turn maintenance from a reactive task into a proactive strategy.
