Dodgers Digest

Different day, same story for the Dodgers, including the starting pitcher being largely effective and the offense being cheeks. That led to a tight game that came down to the pens late, and the Tigers were able to walk it off in a 2-1 loss. ====== Blake Snell began looking for efficiency, but didn’t get. Thankfully at least, he did limit the damage throughout his start. After a clean 1st, he worked around a lead-off single in the 2nd, but found major trouble in the 3rd.

(Via @Dodgers) The constant pressure the Dodgers offense puts on the rest of the team continues today with Blake Snell getting the nod against the Tigers. I’m sure the pitchers really love the feeling that if they give up more than a run or two, it’s curtains.

The Dodgers (80-54) continued their struggles against good teams as they were swept in Atlanta in the last series. Six of their last eight games have been decided by one run including all three games against Atlanta, but unlike the previous Colorado and Pittsburgh series’ their inability to do the little things well cost them this time.

A couple of weeks ago, Dustin made a hopeful plea for the Dodgers to promote top prospect Josue De Paula for the stretch run. While I understood his desire, I figured the team’s pragmatic approach always made that move unlikely*. Still, with rosters expanding by two in September, it does provide the team with an opportunity to try … well, something different. *Though every 0-for-4 day and defensive misplay from the corner outfield spots chips away at that instinct.

Well, the good news is Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Chris Sale gave people the pitchers’ duel they wanted. The bad news is one pitch was all the Braves lineup needed to hit the game-deciding homer, as Sale outdueled Yamamoto. There just wasn’t much of a game to be had, as the Dodgers got clowned on in a 1-0 loss.

Game Threads After entering this road trip on a six game winning streak, the Dodgers have dropped the first two games of this three game set against the Atlanta Braves in a pair of one-run games. Tanner Scott has allowed the winning run in back-to-back nights, but he’s largely been excellent this season and the offense and defense deserve more scrutiny for requiring the relief staff to be perfect.

After a frustrating loss yesterday, the Dodgers somehow had an even more frustrating loss today after they were walked off by Ha-Seong Kim, who had not had a hit since June 3. That comes after outfield defense cost them at least one run and they stranded a small island on the bases in huge bases loaded chances. Just embarrassing stuff in a 6-5 loss to the Braves.

The Dodgers (80-52) dropped the opener in Atlanta in frustrating fashion. Tyler Glasnow made his return off the IL and got BABIP’d for three first inning runs. The bottom of the Dodger order carried the offense and tied the game and Alex Vesia, Evan Phillips and Jack Dreyer put up 0s out of the bullpen. Tanner Scott came into a tie game in the eighth and gave up a double and a single to give Atlanta the lead.

The series battle for a playoff bye began with Tyler Glasnow getting BABIP’d to death for an early deficit, but he settled down after that in his return from injury, and the Dodger bats clawed back into the game against Bryce Elder to tie things up going into the later innings. Once there, the Dodgers gave up a run first via a two-out Ozzie Albies single off Tanner Scott, while the Dodgers weren’t able to get Shohei Ohtani in from third with nobody out in the 9th in a 4-3 loss to the Braves.
