A Pilgrimage for the Soul
Newsletter (Digital)
My name is Donna and I am a writer, coach, therapist and group facilitator with over 35 years experience. I also describe myself as an ‘Elder in training’ because I am leaning towards that stage of my life as a 57 year old woman who has worked hard to transform her wounds into wisdom. (More on that later).
I love reading, writing, watching films, listening to podcasts, exercise, drinking coffee, walking, talking to trees and non religious prayer. I view nature as my church because it’s where I go to worship Life. I would describe myself as an introvert (although for a long time I pretended not to be). I am a mother of 2 daughters and the grandmother of 3 young boys, and I absolutely love my role in helping to raise ‘gentle-men’.
I have written and published 2 books – ‘The Bridge - a 9 step crossing into authentic and wholehearted living’ (Penguin Life, 2022) and ‘Wise Words for Women’ (Happy Place Books/Ebury 2023). I have also written extensively for various magazines along the way.
I was one of the Co-founders and facilitators of The Bridge Retreat and have been working with individuals, couples and groups for over 30 years. I originally trained as a social worker, specialising in child protection and worked extensively within this and related fields. I am a highly experienced group facilitator and intuitive Coach and have worked internationally in a wide variety of environments including women’s refuges, schools and prisons.
A documentary called Love(d) was made about the work of The Bridge Retreat in 2018, sharing the stories of 12 people as they took the leap to heal the grief and loss in their lives. You can now watch the documentary for free via Loved Documentary
Way back in 2007 I qualified as a Hoffman Teacher with the Hoffman Institute UK and went on to become their Head of Teaching in 2011. I then completed the Imago Relationship Clinical Training Programme and ran a busy couples practice in London for many years, going on to train with the Centre for Systemic Constellations to support my work in honouring family and ancestral influences.
My work has been featured in numerous publications including The Telegraph, Psychologies, Evening Standard, Huffington Post, Balance, Conde Nast, Poosh and Tatler and I have been a guest on many podcasts including Happy Place, Mad world with Bryony Gordon, Motherkind, Saturn Returns with Caggie Dunlop, Ctrl. Alt. Delete with Emma Gannon, Love Itself with Cressida Bonas and Not Perfect with Poppy Jamie. Source

Finally meeting the Love of my life...
If you had told me back in the day that I would be planning my third marriage in time for my 60th birthday next spring, I would have laughed my sweaty little head off. Me?! Marry 3 times?! Who do you think I am, Elizabeth Taylor?! Yet here I am crafting a ritual to both celebrate turning 60 in 2027, and preparing to commit to the Love of my life. Who knew? My first marriage was what was/is known as a shotgun wedding. I was 17 years old and pregnant when my then boyfriend suggested we tie the knot.
Better Together
I have just returned from co-facilitating the most magical WOW retreat with a small group of incredible women/witches, in the stunning Somerset countryside. It’s hard to put into words what this experience gifted us all, but my goodness we felt our hearts open and the earth moved too, along with our souls! There is something about a group of emotionally and spiritually mature women coming together in truth, that activates its own kind of medicine flowing out into the wider world.
Grief as Dark Medicine
Mum and me and Bounty make 3 On the 26th September it will be 16 years since my mum died. Sixteen years!! Hard to believe really. She was only 68 and I was 43. Strange to think she could still be alive today in terms of years. She would have been 84 if she had lived. I sometimes wonder what sort of older woman she would have been. A moany one no doubt, (we love a moan in our family), and also joyful too. My mum loved to laugh and did a lot of it, which is again part of my family legacy.
A Pilgrimage for the Soul
Hello! It’s been a while but here it is, my latest episode of my podcast that isn’t a podcast. Thank you for your patience. This offering is free to all my subscribers and if you feel it might be helpful and supportive to someone in your life, please feel free to share it far and wide. #spreadthelove In this video I speak about….. The challenges we are all facing as the world as we know it unravels, and the natural feelings and grief we have about this.
Taking a Breather...
Hello everyone 👋🏾 I do hope you are all well and enjoying this seasonal weather…. (that’s me trying to be inclusive for the international crew!) Like many of you who are based in the UK my brain has turned rather mushy since this extended heatwave, and left me pretty scuppered in terms of finding words to write for you. You could call it writers block or simply a brain needing to cool down.
The Truth Hurts
'He didn't hear enough no's' When Elvis Presley died in 1977 at just 42 years old, he was morbidly obese and had multiple health issues. He was apparently addicted to many things, including food, sex and prescription drugs. Elvis was famously found dead on his bathroom floor, with the initial reports raising questions about the circumstances of his death. His fiancée at the time, Ginger Alden, found Elvis’s body, and was later asked by the press what she believed had killed him.
The Story of Relationships
Jordan and I discussing the serious business of relationships at Happy Place Festival, 2026. Last weekend I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Jordan Stephens at Fearne Cottonās Happy Place Festival (HPF) in London. Jordan and I go way back, and have built a deep and light filled friendship, since he first showed up at my relationship workshop all those years ago.
Is this the end of the world as we know it....?
Chaos warning - given that I am writing about a very complex subject and one which I know very little, (and yet lots) about, this piece may well be a bit chaotic. Just like life. (At least you’ll be sure it’s not written by AI!) I may (will) jump from one subject to another, and it may (will ) unsettle you, and definitely raise more questions than answers. But then isn’t that our work my friends? For those of us walking/crawling along the awakening path!?
Clean Up-Grow Up-Go Up-Show Up
“When we are healing, it’s all about us and our wounds, helping us to make our peace with the past and move from self loathing, back to self love. When we awaken, we remove ‘the self’ attached to that love, and simply ‘BE' Love. We endeavour to live and breathe every single day as the Love that we are, and have always been.” I would like to share with you a framework that I use when working with people in my Staying Awake Programme and beyond.
