CHENNAI: A 32-year-old man was killed after a van knocked his two-wheeler down near Taramani on Saturday. The police said the van driver was inebriated at the time of the accident. The deceased was identified as Nagarajan (32), a resident of Kodambakkam. Nagarajan was employed in a private firm in Taramani. On Saturday morning, he went to his office as usual, and was riding to another location along Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) towards Madhya Kailash when the accident happened.

CHENNAI: A 48-year-old man, who faked illness to avail wheelchair service to evade checking and tried to smuggle high-grade hydroponic ganja worth Rs 3 crore from Thailand via Malaysia, was arrested by Customs officials at the Chennai airport on Sunday. According to Customs, an AirAsia flight from Thailand via Kuala Lumpur landed at Chennai airport in the early hours of Sunday. Officials were monitoring passengers and stopping those found suspicious for questioning.

CHENNAI: Repeated resurfacing of roads without milling and removing existing layers has left houses lower than road level at several locations across Tamil Nadu, increasing the risk of flooding, accidents, and financial losses for residents, according to a study by civic activist group Arappor Iyakkam. The organisation received photographs and details of 245 locations from 157 volunteers as part of a six-week public survey launched on June 29.

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old man, an A-Category history sheeter facing more than a dozen criminal cases, was killed by a gang on Saturday night in Kelambakkam. The man had come out on bail only two days ago, said police sources, who added that they suspect it to be linked to an ongoing turf war. The murder came to the police’s knowledge on Sunday after members of the public alerted officials about the body of a man with severe injuries near a crematorium in Kelambakkam.

The issue was particularly concerning as the pathway is frequently used by residents. In Shastri Nagar, particularly on 5th, 10th and 15th Streets, and 15th Street in New Thiru Vi Ka Street, electrical wires are exposed along the pathways used by residents every day.
