CHENGALPATTU: Chengalpattu Collector M Veerappan has instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project director to take steps to open the Pukkathurai flyover to the public from October 16 and complete the Padalam flyover before Deepavali. The Pukkathurai flyover is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 21 crore, while the Padalam flyover is being built at a cost of Rs 21.50 crore.

CHENNAI: Indian Bank on Thursday recorded a 15% surge in net profit to Rs 3,462 crore for the Q2 ended September 30, reflecting improved operational efficiency and disciplined cost management apart from net interest margins being steady. Announcing the results at a press meet here on Thursday, the Bank's MD-CEO Binod Kumar started by stating that the resilient Indian economy has seen its GDP going up beyond the projected 7% and the trade gap has been narrowing too.

THOOTHUKUDI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police have arrested four more people in connection with the alleged Rs 29-crore fraud at the Kurumbur Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society. The police are also taking steps to recover gold jewellery allegedly misappropriated from the society and re-pledged in the names of other people.

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) has directed all government and private high and higher secondary schools in Tamil Nadu to complete the registration of students appearing for the Class 10 public exam by October 31. Schools have been instructed to verify students' personal details, upload the required documents and collect exam fees from eligible candidates before submitting the details online. The exam fee has been fixed at Rs 115 per student.

CHENNAI: The Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy has invited online applications for admission to diploma courses offered by Government AYUSH paramedical colleges in Chennai and Palayamkottai for the 2026–27 academic year. The directorate said that eligible candidates can apply for the courses through the official website, www.tnayushselection.org. The information brochure, containing details of the courses, eligibility criteria, and counselling schedule, is available on the website.

The four youth, who had travelled from Adoor in Kerala on Wednesday evening, were heading to  Kulasekarapattinam   when they followed the navigation app into a lane barely wide enough for a motorcycle. Once inside, the car became stuck between two walls, leaving the occupants unable to move forward or reverse. They were also unable to get out of the vehicle, leaving them stranded until residents in the area noticed their plight.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu police cannot deny permission for RSS route marches merely because mosques and Eidgahs were located along the proposed routes, said the Madras High Court, observing that citing such reasons would portray Muslims in a bad light. VG Jagadeesan, State secretary of RSS’s north Tamil Nadu unit, approached the court seeking permission to conduct route marches followed by public meetings across Tamil Nadu on October 18, October 25, and November 1.
