On 29 June 2026, the European Banking Industry Committee (EBIC) held its 56th Plenary Meeting at the premises of the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB) in Brussels. Chaired by EACB CEO Nina Schindler, the meeting brought together representatives of the European banking industry to discuss key regulatory and policy developments affecting the sector. The central topic of the meeting was the European Commission’s work regarding the competitiveness of the EU banking sector.

Vienna, 19/06/2026 – At its 59th General Assembly, the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB) appointed its Board for a new two-year term, re-electing Priscille Szeradzki (Confédération Nationale du Crédit Mutuel) as President as well as Daniel Quinten (Bundesverband der Deutschen Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken, BVR) and Vincent Maagdenberg (Rabobank) as Vice-Presidents.

Vienna, 19/06/2026 – Executives and senior bankers from cooperative banking institutions gathered in Vienna for the 59th General Assembly of the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB), kindly hosted by the Austrian Raiffeisen Federation (ÖRV).

The EACB welcomes the opportunity to participate in the European Commission’s consultation regarding its proposal to amend and simplify the rules and make technical fixes to Annex I of the EU Deforestation Regulation. We appreciate the clarifications and simplifications already introduced in the level 1 text as part of the European Commission’s efforts to streamline regulation and alleviate undue burdens on market players.

The RTS on Customer Due Diligence (CDD), stemming from EU Regulation 2024/1624 (AMLR), constitutes one of the key mandates given its crucial role in laying down the requirements and information to be collected for the purposes of standard, simplified and enhanced due diligence; as well as in specifying the electronic identification means required for the identification and verification of the customer and of the beneficial owners.

Brussels, 7 May 2026 – The European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB) releases today its Annual Report 2025, providing an overview of the association’s key activities advancing the voice of cooperative banks in the legislative and policy debate in the EU and beyond. With competitiveness, the twin transitions, and strategic autonomy featuring highly on the EU strategic agenda, the EACB maintained a strong engagement in the regulatory debate.

The EACB welcomes the opportunity to comment on the EBA’s draft Guidelines on the appropriate subsets of sectoral exposures to which competent or designated authorities may apply a systemic risk buffer (SyRB). In our response, we question whether the timing of this regulatory initiative is appropriate in the current context.

Since the publication of the Digital Euro Cost Study in June 2025, the discussion around the digital euro has progressed. Among other developments, a new version of the Rulebook has been published, and additional information has become available. This includes, for example, the ECB's assessment of costs, design assumptions and synergy potential, as well as materials from the various working sessions conducted as part of the "ERPB engagement on digital euro fit in the payment ecosystem".
