Eight people were rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out at a house in Southall in the early hours of Friday morning (21 August 2026). Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the end-of-terrace property in Shackleton Road. The first of four 999 calls was received at 1.41am, with crews from Southall, Ealing and Hillingdon fire stations sent to the scene. The fire was brought under control by 2.23am.
Northolt Post Office redevelopment gets go-ahead after close Ealing Council vote
Ealing Council has narrowly approved plans to demolish and rebuild Northolt Post Office. Councillors met on Wednesday (19 August 2026), to vote on plans which will see the Post Office on Mandeville Road rebuilt to larger than the original building, alongside 500 self storage units. The committee voted by five to four in favour of the plans.
Ealing’s University of West London shortlisted for 2026 HSJ Award
A project from Ealing’s University of West London supporting the wellbeing of critical care nurses has been shortlisted for a national NHS award. The university has worked with London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH), which runs Ealing Hospital, to introduce structured wellbeing support into postgraduate training for critical care nurses.
Southall crime crackdown leads to 134 arrests and 13 weapons seized
Police have made 134 arrests and seized 13 weapons during a four-week crackdown on crime and antisocial behaviour in Southall, the Metropolitan Police has told EALING.NEWS. The operation ran from 13 July 2026 to 9 August 2026, with the Met confirming the arrests were made as part of the crackdown and were on top of its usual policing in Southall. The weapons seized included knives.
Watchdog finds Ealing Council failed man with Parkinson’s dementia
Ealing Council failed an elderly father with Parkinson’s related dementia by not answering his emails and calls, a watchdog has ruled. The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman has ruled that the council must apologise and retrain staff due to the failings. In November 2024, the man, referred to as Mr X in the report, was discharged from hospital. Having previously lived independently, the council assessed that Mr X would now need reablement care with two carers attending four times a day.
St Augustine’s Priory celebrates strong GCSE results in Ealing
More than half of GCSE grades awarded at St Augustine’s Priory this summer were at grades 9-7, with particularly strong results in modern languages and drama. The Ealing school said 54% of all grades were at 9-7, equivalent to the former A*-A grades, while 32% were at grades 9-8. Modern languages produced some of the school’s strongest results, with 94% of grades at 9-7 and 65% awarded the top grade 9. In drama, 90% of grades were at 9-7.
Villiers High School celebrates best GCSE results in a decade
Villiers High School in Southall has recorded its best GCSE results in a decade, with one student achieving grade 9s in every subject. Headteacher Christopher Richards said the 2026 results were the strongest in his nine years at the school, with the average grade rising from 4 last year to 5 this year. Yousef Samaha, 16, achieved grade 9s across all his subjects, a school record.
GCSE success for students at Dormers Wells High School in Southall
Students at Dormers Wells High School are celebrating their GCSE results after 70% achieved grade 4 or above in both English and maths. Results released show 54% of pupils at the Southall school achieved grade 5 or above in both subjects. More than a third of English entries, 34%, were awarded the higher grades of 7 to 9, while 30% of maths entries achieved grades 7 to 9.
Ark Soane Academy founding cohort achieves strong GCSE results
Ark Soane Academy’s first GCSE students have received their results, with more than half of all grades at the Acton school awarded at 7 to 9. The school opened in 2021 with its founding cohort of Year 7 pupils, who have now become the first students to complete their GCSEs there. Overall, 54% of grades were at 7 to 9, equivalent to the former A and A* grades, while 90% of pupils achieved grades 4 to 9 in both English and maths.
Top GCSE grades for Notting Hill & Ealing High School students
Nearly half of all GCSE entries at Notting Hill & Ealing High School have been awarded the top grade as its Year 11 students received their results. The Ealing school said 45% of entries from its cohort of 94 students achieved grade 9, while 74% were graded 9 or 8 and 91% received grades between 9 and 7. Twenty-eight students, representing 30% of the year group, achieved seven or more grade 9s, while 32% received only grades 9 and 8.
