Bay area R&B singer-songwriter Caragan is a dear friend of mine. I admire many of his qualities, but two in particular: his diligence and his lyricism. His new single “Sweet Peaches” is an emanation of these traits, an ode to yielding the fruits of hard labor. From ambient synths to funky electric to stacked harmonies, there’s an abundance of moving parts. But the track is still defined by impressively clean production. There’s never a moment where any given sound or effect overpowers another.

It’s a late night driving around listening to music with my best friend, which is often something I may take for granted way too often. But this night my head was exactly where my feet were. I was present. Overwhelmed with the idea that I’ll look back at this night and say, “damn those were the days”. As this song flowed through my car’s speakers and as my friend and I’s head both bobbing in sync, I looked over to him and said, “I hope we don’t ever forget small moments like this”.

Keegan Konsor is entirely in his own world. His music encapsulates a lot of mayhem, both sonically and lyrically, and his music videos, social media presence (seriously a trip), and art direction all coincide with that chaos. His shapeshifting debut Kink in the Wire dropped early last month, comprised of songs that vary from 2010s electropop (“Oh Shut Up!”) to modern indie-pop (“She Won’t Talk to Me”), to unidentifiable (“On Facetime”).

It takes a very rare set of circumstances for an up-and-coming artist to disappear for a full year and still manage to leave me in a state of anxious anticipation to know what they’re going to release next. The music and artist have to have such a profound effect on me that there’s simply no way to avoid or deny their greatness. After all, things move so fast in music these days that we hardly have a second to digest what’s in front of our faces before we’re already on to the next wave or trend.

The first track, “RESERVOIR”, bares a bit of Wood’s soul.
