Nominations open for the 2026 Ontario Apprenticeship Awards

Ottawa, Que., and Nfld. reach agreement on Churchill Falls expansion, power distribution
On August 17, Prime Minister Mark Carney, alongside the Premier of Quebec Christine Fréchette, Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador Tony Wakeham, and the CEOs of Hydro-Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, announced a historic agreement to upgrade and expand the Churchill Falls Generating Station in Newfoundland.
Ontario invests over $6 million to support skilled trades training in Hamilton, Ont. area
The Ontario government is investing more than $6 million through its Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program, Apprenticeship Capital Grant, and Skills Development Fund Capital Stream to support skilled trades training in Hamilton, Ont. and surrounding areas. Funding will be provided to eight organizations, helping nearly 200 prospective trainees prepare for in-demand jobs across the skilled trades. Of these organizations, Mohawk College is receiving the largest investment at more than $2.6 million.
Nuclea Energy Canada to acquire nuclear technology portfolio of Saint John, NB’s Moltex Energy
Mississauga, Ont.-based Nuclea Energy Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement with Saint John, NB’s Moltex Energy to acquire its advanced nuclear technology portfolio. Acquired assets include 80 granted patents across nine patent families, including Moltex’s Stable Salt Reactor – Wasteburner (SSR-W) and FLEX reactor technologies, along with its Waste to Stable Salt (WATTS) used nuclear fuel recycling process.

Net metered solar panels installed across 10 Nova Scotian First Nations communities
Following an investment of more than $4.8 million from the federal government and local communities, net metered solar panels have been installed across 10 Mi’kmaw communities in Nova Scotia. Participating First Nations communities include Acadia, Annapolis Valley, Eskasoni, Glooscap, Millbrook, Paqtnkek, Pictor Landing, Potlotek, Wagmatcook, and Waycobah.
