We are deeply alarmed that BHRT, the national public service broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is on the brink of collapse. BHRT is unable to pay its staff and its suppliers. It can no longer operate normally. Two programmes have already been dropped for lack of funds, and its ability to report from across the country is being increasingly constrained. More than 750 journalists, producers, technicians and other staff face losing their jobs in a crisis they did not create.

On 11 September, the EBU submitted our response to the European Commission's Call for Evidence on the EU position for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27), the international meeting that decides how radio spectrum is shared and used worldwide. We welcome the opportunity to take part in this process and acknowledge the importance of the EU and its Member States agreeing a common position.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the International Biathlon Union (IBU) have extended their exclusive media rights and production partnership, ensuring fans can continue to follow the world’s best biathletes across EBU Members’ and partner services until 2034. The new agreement takes a partnership that began in 1993 into its fifth decade, reflecting biathlon’s enduring and growing appeal.

EBU names Corinne Destoop as Chief Financial Officer The European Broadcasting Union has named EBU Deputy Head of Finance, Corinne Destoop, as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Her appointment follows a selection process that involved the EBU Director General, the Personnel Committee of the EBU Executive Board, and the Chair of the Finance Group. Corinne will assume the role on 1 January 2027 after a period of handover with outgoing CFAO, Emmanuel Frantz.

A new cross-border investigation by four public service broadcasters has exposed a network of ‘disposable’ recruits, which authorities have linked to sabotage attacks directed by Russian intelligence across Czechia, Poland, Romania and Lithuania between May and September 2024. Reporters from four EBU Members – DW (Germany), LRT (Lithuania), RTVE (Spain) and ČT (Czechia) – carried out the investigation under the coordination of the EBU Investigative Journalism Network (IJN).

Claims that there was election fraud or rigging in a state election in Germany at the weekend were not backed up by any evidence, according to fact-checkers in the Eurovision News Spotlight network who analysed a number of themes circulating on social media. Sunday saw the state of Saxony-Anhalt hand a decisive victory to the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, parts of which are classified by German authorities as “right-wing extremist”.

For a long time, debates about impartiality in public service media (PSM) have centred on news and current affairs. That is where our editorial frameworks were developed and where our audiences have traditionally expected the highest standards of balance and fairness.That is no longer the whole picture. Increasingly, the complaints landing on broadcasters' desks are not about news at all. They are about drama, comedy, entertainment formats, and even casting decisions.

Throughout summer 2026, there were a number of developments in the AI content space — most notably, in the detection of that content. Many of the world’s biggest tech companies — like Meta and TikTok, which are now also AI companies — have introduced AI content detectors in recent months. Others were earlier on the scene, like Google with its SynthID watermarking system.
