Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) has welcomed the approval of a new datacentre in west London, but warned that rapid expansion must be matched by sufficient grid capacity and a skilled electrical workforce. ECA said datacentres can bring major economic opportunities for UK engineering services businesses, from construction and installation to long-term maintenance and specialist technical work.

Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) is reminding its Members that the traditional landline network, known as the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), will be switched off on 31 January 2027. Across the UK Openreach is migrating the network to be fibre-based. Openreach will also be launching an Emergency Voice product at the end of January, to give a safety net for lines that are still connected.
