Two Monticello residents killed after crashing into fallen tree

On Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7:10 a.m., two Monticello residents traveling on U.S. Highway 90 suffered fatal injuries when their vehicle crashed into a tree that had fallen across both lanes near the intersection with Misty Lake Road. The Florida Highway Patrol's (FHP) initial on-scene investigation found that a big tree had fallen from the north shoulder across the highway. The sport utility vehicle was traveling westbound and collided with the tree.
Appellate court upholds Reams’ conviction

Nearly two years after former Jefferson County Clerk of Court Kirk Reams filed a notice of appeal with the First District Court of Appeal (DCA) contesting his 2024 felony conviction, sentence and restitution order, the appellate court last week issued a preliminary decision affirming the lower court’s ruling. On Wednesday, Sept. 30, a three-member panel of the DCA issued a single-page order collectively affirming the lower court’s findings.

City approves final budget and millage rate (Slight property tax increase is part of package)
