Gov. Dan McKee has vowed to appeal last week’s decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) denying Rhode Island’s request for disaster aid after February’s record-setting blizzard buried the state in over 3 feet of snow.

For four years, local election administrators have relied on a single sentence in state law to carry out early in-person voting. Not anymore. Regulations approved by a 4-0 vote of the Rhode Island Board of Elections at its meeting Tuesday codify and add detail to the process and protections for early voting, available at designated locations 20 days before primary and general elections.

Anna Molinari, 27, of New York City, spent part of her teenage years in Jamestown while her father served in the Navy. Molinari, now based in New York City, has built her career and her brand on fully sustainable designs.

The extreme heat over the July 4 holiday weekend brought thousands to South County beaches in search of a bit of relief. With a heat index reaching 100-110°F,  a day in the sand and surf was the reprieve many were looking for.

Rhode Island beachgoers may one day get a shark-attack warning on their phones under a new federal law. President Donald Trump signed a federal measure known as Lulu’s Law on June 26, adding shark attacks to the emergencies that can trigger wireless alerts. The change is unlikely to be used often in a state with almost no attack in recent history, though Rhode Island experts say a warming ocean is shifting the odds. The East Greenwich Town Council voted unanimously to fire the company responsible for verifying the structural integrity of the Frenchtown and Hanaford elementary school construction projects and the East Greenwich High School addition. At the June 22 meeting, project managers said the firm did not report a failed soil test until additional work had already been built on top of it and shared other concerns about reporting and staffing.
