El Universal (Venezuela)

Verified
Newspaper
Since 1909 the newspaper El Universal has managed to capture in its pages the most fateful moments in the history of humanity. Today, in a particularly distressing time for all, we look back to be inspired by the strength of those who, throughout these decades, were true witnesses and survivors of the most adverse conditions. The Spanish flu, in the first decades of the 20th century; the 1957 Asian flu; that of Hong Kong in 1968 and the most recent events that put global health at risk, such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Ebola and the AH1N1 flu, were reflected on our pages as the great news that shook the conscience of the man. The challenge of the Covid-19 goes further and places us all, citizens, the media, dignitaries and authorities at a crossroads that inevitably leads us to reflection. In this anniversary month, in our homes, with our families, far from that “professional home” that is in the emblematic Torre El Universal , in the heart of Caracas, we are registered in the commitment for the country and for life. We remember the creators of the newspaper El Universal and those who, leaving fear aside, overcame the most complicated situations to carry it out and make it a complete means of social communication, which relies, today, on technology digital, social media and much more to fulfill the sacred commitment to inform. In this 2020, after 111 years, we also take refuge in the hope that all this will happen and that we will give, sooner rather than later, the best news to Venezuela and the world, when the coronavirus begins to be dominated by science and the united and disinterested work of the international scientific community. Despite the deaths and economic damage this pandemic has been causing since its inception, we are optimistic and lean on our past to be. We look back at the first two decades of the 20th century, a time when El Universal established itself as a newspaper, as a clear, almost premonitory inspiration that in the first two decades of the 21st century, we will continue to be active, active, survivors and clinging to life, for many more years.
