Becca Gooch, Head of Research at EngineeringUK, comments: “Huge congratulations to all students receiving their GCSE and VTQ results today. Achieving qualifications in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects are key milestones on the route to an engineering and technology career. “Maths and science, like English, are compulsory core subjects at GCSE. Maths entries are up 2.2%, larger than the overall increase in GCSE entries (0.6%), which we believe is due to re-sits.

The Code explores... helps STEM outreach organisations learn and improve impact The Code explores... programme is helping organisations across The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code community access practical insights, evidence and resources to strengthen STEM outreach. Developed in response to feedback from Code Signatories, the programme explores topics in depth through a mix of live sessions, on-demand content, practical tools and community discussion over several weeks.
New teacher CPD videos on climate education
Supporting teachers to connect climate education with engineering careers A new series of short teacher CPD videos has been launched to help more young people understand the role of engineering and technology in tackling climate change. The videos are linked to EUK Education’s Climate Schools Programme. The free, curriculum-linked lessons and activities help students aged 11 to 14 explore solutions to climate change while developing skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication.
More than 23,000 visitors attend The Big Bang Fair 2026
Thousands of young people discovered the possibilities of engineering and technology This year's Big Bang Fair was another brilliant success in inspiring the next generation of people working in engineering and technology. Held at the NEC in Birmingham from 9 to 11 June, the UK's largest free STEM event for young people welcomed schools from across the country. The Fair comprises hands-on activities, live shows, interactive exhibits and careers inspiration.
Engaging students from groups underrepresented in engineering and tech
Kim Biddulph Head of Engagement Projects , EngineeringUK Kim leads the development and delivery of our activities with schools, such as Energy Quest. She was instrumental in applying a user-centred design process to the development of the Climate Schools Programme. Kim has 25 years of experience designing and developing engagement activities with and for young people of all ages from 0 to 18 and beyond.

From ground breaking innovations to inspiring leadership, women in engineering continue to make a difference. Women make up just 17% of the engineering and tech workforce, highlighting the need for stronger representation. Of course, we promote women in engineering all year round, not just for INWED.
