The most recent MPE Berlin was, as ever, an intense and productive affair. Over three days in March, more than 1,600 participants, including over 400 merchants, gathered in Germany’s capital from 52 countries across the globe. This year’s conference bore witness to the growing dynamism of payments as an industry.

Merchant Payments Ecosystem (MPE) is Europe’s top event for merchants and payments professionals, attracting a global audience of more than 1,600 merchant and payments experts to a three-day conference in Berlin every March. Now in its nineteenth year, MPE is a landmark in the global payments calendar, and we are proud to be media partners of this prestigious event.

How our partnership with KoreFusion turned original research into a global content programme. KoreFusion develops payments strategies for global clients across industries. A founding client for Eris Intelligence, they first hired us in 2024 for copywriting support. The partnership expanded at pace into research work. By 2025, we began delivering a broader content programme. They have since retained us to lead a full marketing communications programme for 2026.

The latest research from Corpay, a global S&P corporate payments company, reveals the pressure UK businesses feel to automate. While Corpay’s research framesBut with inefficiency framed as the greatest risk, it appears to ignore the threats created by powerful and accessible automation are overlooked. Corpay say that cCompanies are concerned about falling behind, pulled unwilling into a race to digitise and accelerate.

New data from Access PaySuite highlights that payments failure remains a persistent source of lost revenue for SMEs. Until businesses are able to process transaction data with accuracy and in real time, payment failure will remain a bottleneck within the system. The use of AI in this context is grounded in data interpretation, rather than abstract automation. Payments need more than operational AI. The real value is in diagnostics.

UK fintech Zilch’s recent expansion hints at where payments are headed. Its platform now combines payments, credit, and data-driven commerce into a single layer. The company claims it is  positioned to de-emphasise the traditional ‘debt’ framing of credit and instead embed credit into everyday payments. Often grouped with buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) players, Zilch is evolving into something broader.

Mambu has announced a partnership with Nyla, a Ghana-founded fintech with ambitions to launch Africa’s first digital Islamic neobank later this year. On the surface, this move appears to target an under-served segment: Africa’s 550 million-strong Muslim population. However, framing this purely as an Islamic finance play misses the larger shift occurring. This is fundamentally an infrastructural move.

The recent $40 million Series B raised by Silverflow, while indicating the company’s growth and future potential, also points to a quieter but more structural shift underway in payments: the move from legacy processing to cloud-native, data-rich infrastructure. Silverflow’s core proposition — direct, API-based access to card networks combined with real-time transaction data — addresses a long-standing limitation in the legacy payments stack.

Ahead of International Women’s Day, conversations across fintech will once again focus on representation. But representation alone does not build payment systems, expand into new markets, or navigate the complexity of global card networks. Impact does. And impact in payments comes from the alignment of commercial judgement, technical precision and deep scheme expertise.
