Evo France 2026 is coming in October, and the player leaderboard has been revealed. I think we can all guess which game took the top spot in registrations, but the rest of the titles show some interesting shifts in the FGC. And, yes, you're right: Street Fighter 6 is the game with the most player registrations! The bracket will have 1,071 players. Street Fighter 6 was also the top game at Evo Japan 2026, reaching the cap of 7,168 players, and Evo Las Vegas 2026, which had 2,416 entries.

It's been over three years since Street Fighter 6 released on June 2, 2023. We've already had some of the most incredible rivalries form within the tournament scene. One such match up pits Varrel|Tokido up against WBG|MenaRD. Though Tokido was previously known for playing Akuma and Ken in Street Fighter 6, he's been putting in work with JP. Retired competitor Kakeru has apparently been coaching Tokido in the ways of JP.

Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is 35 years old as of June 23, 2026. The series has come a long way since the 1991 video game classic, Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. In an interview with One More Game (via VGC), Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka discussed how Sonic the Hedgehog almost didn't make it to 35. At one point, Sega was apparently considering discontinuing the franchise altogether.

The Street Fighter movie is due to hit theaters on October 16, 2026. Capcom and Paramount Pictures have begun ramping up their advertising and merchandising for the movie, which even includes Guile's haircut as a popcorn bucket for the movie itself. A new teaser trailer has been released to further promote the upcoming Street Fighter film. This teaser highlights how the producers have paid extra attention to the content they're replicating within the movie.

Users on Reddit have apparently discovered a bizarre real-life hack that can potentially cut the price off games for the Switch 2 by about $20. Oddly enough, it's been reported that this is causing... bananas to get sold out a Wal-Marts. By purchasing a single banana for about 10 cents, it's possible to secure a $20 promo for games playable on the Switch 2.

Super Smash Bros. Melee has finally been fully decompiled. While the FGC anxiously awaits the inevitable announcement for Super Smash Bros. 6, those who still grind the 2001 GameCube iteration have been waiting nearly six years for a team of developers to 100% decompile the game. With fewer consoles and CRT TVs as time passes, decompiling retro games allows dedicated players to take the action to PC. However, this announcement is just the beginning.
