(Photo by Shawn Magrath) NORWICH – Aiming to bolster housing and manufacturing in the central Chenango County region, county officials are weighing a $50,000 investment that could lead to improvements in water and sewage along the Route 12 corridor.

SHERBURNE – On Wednesday night the Town of Sherburne will hold a public hearing to extend the moratorium on battery energy storage sites. The public hearing will take place at the Sherburne Fire Department at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. The moratorium was put in place on January 14th in order to give the town time to create an energy storage law to protect the interests of town residents. Extending the moratorium will give the town another six months to get the law in place.

When you start looking into the world of archery and bow hunting, a term that pops up frequently is tuning. Whether it is discussing just getting a brand new bow set up or the complex decision of what broadhead to use, you will hear about different tuning methods. Tuning a bow is the fine tinkering to get your arrows to shoot accurately. The first tuning method you will likely hear about is paper tuning.

NORWICH— The 2026 Norwich Gus Macker tournament is officially underway this weekend, July 10-12. With the tournament expected to bring in 313 teams and thousands of players and spectators, there is always a need for volunteers to make the event a success. The tournament is looking for registration volunteers, which registration is being sponsored by UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital this year and will take place at the Norwich Firehouse.

Sherburne — The Rogers Center invites the community to visit the “Dinosaurs As Real Animals” Program from 6 to 7 p.m., July 23, at the Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., located at 2721 State Highway 80 in Sherburne. The program is free to the public and available to ages eight years or older. Registration for the program by emailing ariah@friendsofrogers.org.

Down 1-0, the Storm tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Cash Osborne was hit by the pitch with one out, advanced on wild pitches before scoring on an error.

I’m curious, did you celebrate the 4th of July this year? I ask because typically, each 4th of July, I celebrate by listening to patriotic music and speeches. I remind myself of our nation’s principles, and take time to appreciate what our country has done to make the world a better place. This Independence Day, however, I sat alone and scrolled through social media. Numerous partisan pieces flooded my feed. Each article claimed I should hate or love a side of the political aisle.
