NORWICH – The countdown is on! The 32nd annual Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival returns to downtown Norwich this weekend with three days of art, music, creativity, and community celebration, including a brand-new Friday night kickoff concert.

SHERBURNE — The Chenango Bird Club will host a meeting and presentation on Northeastern grasslands starting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Rogers Environmental Education Center, located at 2721 state Route 80 in Sherburne. The meeting and presentation will be open to the public, and new members are welcome.

In the spirit of creative endeavors celebrated during the annual Colorscape Chenango festival, the Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) will again host a series of 2 p.m. tours featuring culturally and historically significant community spaces. The “Historic Architecture in the Chenango County Seat” walking tour will be held on Sept. 12 and the “Local Treasures Revealed: Living Among History” building tour will be held on Sept. 13.

NORWICH — Although lead-based paint was banned in 1978, lead can still be found lurking in older homes and the environment. Some less-discussed environmental lead exposures can come from soil and other outdoor materials. Warm weather can increase the risk of lead exposure as windows are opened more often, children spend more time outdoors, vegetable gardens are planted and harvested, outdoor fires are used and home improvement projects are underway.

Bainbridge Days returns to the village on Saturday, September 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day features a variety of vendors, a pet parade, music, health fair, and more.

SHERBURNE— The Unadilla Valley/GMU golf team returned to action in back-to-back matches on Thursday, facing off against Deposit-Hancock at Mountain Top. UV/GMU continues to improve in each match despite falling short in a close 227-237 deficit. Carter Simonds led the team with a 42 as Urijah Drake shot a 44 and Evan Hill with a 46. Gavin Underwood chipped in a 48 while Asher Harrington added a 57 and Declan Potter finished as the team’s sixth golfer on the day.

SOUTH NEW BERLIN— The South New Berlin Horseshoe Club finished its 16th week of play on August 26 Potter’s Tires (Billy Schermerhorn and John Edwards) regained the top spot over the Stadium and Webster Paving. The Stadium’s Al Bush and Al Patten now sit in second with Ed Webster and Bob Wells of Webster Paving now in third from the top spot last week. Kelly’s Flowers is still in fourth and Old Skool Lawnmower Repair & Service remains in fifth. It is still anybody’s game with weeks remaining.

OXFORD — Labor Day weekend has come to signal the end of summer, with kids heading back to school and vacations wrapping up, but the summer season is still in full peak form at the Oxford Farmers’ Market where vendors’ tables are overflowing with a huge abundance of those late-summer fruits and vegetables we wait all year to see, all at their absolute peak of freshness.
