GWM has officially launched the new-generation Tank 300 SUV in China, introducing a comprehensive update to one of the flagship models in its premium off-road vehicle lineup. The new Tank 300 is offered in five variants featuring gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Prices start at 199,800 yuan (US$29,499) for the gasoline model and 234,800 yuan for the diesel version.

China’s reinstatement of a consumption tax on lithium batteries could accelerate the trend of automakers developing in-house battery production, according to Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). Writing in an article published on Saturday, Cui said the new tax policy is likely to strengthen the economic case for vehicle manufacturers to produce their own battery cells rather than relying entirely on external suppliers.

Pilot Travel Centers has expanded its electric vehicle charging network by adding 50 new DC fast-charging locations during the first half of 2026, increasing its nationwide network to more than 300 charging sites. The Tennessee-based company said the latest expansion covers 25 U.S. states and means electric vehicle charging is now available at more than one-third of its travel center locations.

Leicester City Council will expand its electric bus fleet with the addition of ten battery-electric buses under a project supported by approximately £4 million in government funding. The new vehicles, supplied by Pelican Bus and Coach, the United Kingdom’s importer and distributor of Yutong buses, are scheduled to enter service during the first quarter of 2027. The electric buses will operate on council-supported services managed by Centrebus, serving routes 20, 24, 81, 83 and 162.

Isuzu Motors has begun testing swappable battery technology for electric refuse trucks in Yokohama, Japan, as part of a pilot project aimed at improving the operational availability of battery-electric municipal vehicles. The trial, which will run until March 2028, is being conducted in partnership with the City of Yokohama and will assess whether automated battery swapping can reduce vehicle downtime compared with conventional charging.

Mercedes-Benz will unveil the third-generation GLA at the end of July, introducing an electric-first version of its compact SUV as part of the company’s broader transition to next-generation vehicle platforms. According to Automobilwoche, citing company sources, the new GLA will continue to be produced at Mercedes-Benz’s Rastatt plant in Germany despite uncertainty surrounding the site’s future amid the automaker’s ongoing cost-reduction efforts.

ChargePoint has announced two new partnerships in the United States aimed at expanding public electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with projects planned across the Southeast and along major highways in Pennsylvania and New York. The agreements include the deployment of more than 200 public charging ports through a partnership with Optimus Energy Solutions and the installation of ultra-fast charging stations at 12 highway travel plazas operated by Onvo.

MAN Truck & Bus will invest €1 billion in its Kraków manufacturing plant in Poland to expand production capacity and prepare the facility for the next generation of commercial vehicles based on the TRATON Modular System (TMS). The company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Polish government outlining the investment, which includes expanding production facilities, supporting future vehicle programs and increasing electric truck manufacturing capacity.
