Last week I was catching up with a good friend on Zoom that I had not spoken with in perhaps six months. I knew he was an avid reader and paid subscriber of this newsletter. So, when the topic of the newsletter came up, I asked him what he thought of recent columns. He then said something that startled me. He said, roughly, that I was very pessimistic about the future and did not see a way out. Huh? What?

Nothing much in that April 20 column has changed relative to Trump’s War with Iran. In it I wrote: “1. The Strait of Hormuz will be largely closed for months, if not well into 2027 2. Trump is a pathological liar [more on that below] 3. Iran has taken the U.S.’s best shot and is still standing with massive leverage. 4. Iran only has the long game to play 5. It took the Obama administration 20 months to secure the Iran deal with Obama, Kerry, all relevant Iran and nuclear experts.

We are in the Shift Age. In the Shift Age the speed of change has accelerated so fast that change is environmental; we live in a world surrounded by change. All aspects of our lives are undergoing change. Everywhere we look there is change or shift.

I have written a couple of times about the possible silver lining of Trump’s War with Iran.I wrote thisand a bit later, this column. I have also written about how stupid/wrong side of history the Trump Administration is on the climate crisis. If you are going to start a war that will cut off the global oil supplies and increase dramatically the price of oil, would you not rapidly develop wind and solar power? Wind and solar have no geopolitical baggage. It is ‘free’, clean and never ending.

In the last column, I wrote about the most disruptive flow, the Accelerating Electronic Connectedness.The flow to global and the flow to the individual are both amplified by this AEC. All three point to the inevitability of the global stage of human evolution. Let’s take a look at why. Flow to Global As the photo in the above linked column shows, two women in rural Africa are your neighbors in the sense that you can reach them whenever and wherever they are.

In my last column I wrote about the Three Flows of the Shift Age . All three are precursors to the global stage of human evolution that the Shift Age has ushered in. This column is about the most dominant disruption of the last 30 years which is the accelerating electronic connectedness of humanity. On scale, this is completely a phenomenon of the 21st century. As mentioned in a recent column, I have had the good fortune to get a lot of new subscribers in 2026.
