WASHINGTON—The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) has filed a brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in a set of consolidated lawsuits against an Arizona law requiring state election officials to verify the U.S. citizenship of those applying to vote in federal elections in the state. A federal district court has struck down the law as preempted under the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed that decision.

WASHINGTON—Today, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) filed a brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit urging the court to vacate an injunction issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island against tough vetting procedures and exclusions the Trump Administration has put in place for aliens, especially those from countries that do not keep reliable records.

Last week, the Trump administration moved to cancel millions of dollars in funding for programs for illegal aliens and foreign nationals as part of an $810 million pocket rescission. The rescission cancellation is the administration’s latest effort to combat illegal immigration and put American citizens first.

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report detailing errors in the vetting of Afghan asylum applicants admitted under Operation Allies Welcome (OAW). The report found that, among asylum cases filed by Afghans resettled under the operation, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) made errors in 40 percent of those sampled, including missing aliases, incomplete security checks, and incomplete documentation.

Last week, President Trump signed an Executive Order aimed at curbing abuse of the H-1B program, which has consistently been used by corporations to replace Americans with cheaper foreign workers. The Order directs the State Department, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Labor (DOL) to take into account whether employers petitioning for H-1B workers have either conducted layoffs of U.S. workers in the past year or plan future layoffs.

Last week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continued its crackdown on asylum fraud, warning the anti-borders American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) that filing meritless or fraudulent claims will have serious consequences. In the letter, DHS General Counsel James Percival reiterated that frivolous applications can permanently bar aliens from immigration relief and that immigration attorneys who submit those applications may face steep disciplinary penalties.
