Miss Fairfax Anna Ohlensehlen was crowned Miss Fairfax 2024 Friday, August 16, at the Fairfax Fair. Junior Miss Fairfax Caroline Larson was crowned Junior Miss Fairfax 2024. Little Miss and Mr. Fairfax Everlee Smith and Jack Clement were crowned Little Miss and Mr. Fairfax at the Fairfax Fair Friday evening, August 16, 2024. Auxilian of the Year Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxilian of the Year Kathy Davis rode in the Fairfax Fair Parade.
Food pantry updates
Rock Port Food Pantry The Rock Port Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry is low on the following items: canned mandarin oranges, boxed mashed potato flakes, canned chili beans, and canned peas. The food pantry will be open Friday, August 23, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, September 3, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; Friday, September 13, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.;Tuesday, September 17, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon; and Friday, September 27, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. Donations are welcome.
Old Fashioned Saturday Night
Old Fashioned Saturday Night will be September 21 this year. The annual event is held on Main Street in Rock Port. Little Tuggers Tractor Pull and Duncan’s Carriage Rides are set up to be in Rock Port again this year.

Pleasant View Double Elimination Co-Ed Softball Tournament August 20, 2024 Share On Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, Missouri, will sponsor a double elimination co-ed softball tournament Saturday, September 7 (and Sunday, pending interest). The first game on Saturday will start at 8:00 a.m. The tournament will be held at the Rock Port Field and concessions will be available. The event is BYOB. Wrist bands will be given upon ID check.
Graves-Chapple Field Day Aug. 27
By Julie Harker The annual field day at the University of Missouri’s Graves-Chapple Extension and Education Center in northwest Missouri is August 27. Three tours will take place in the morning, followed by lunch. The tours will focus on pest management, technology and crop management. MU Extension specialists and others will present at this free event. “The amount of data that can be collected using drones and autonomous robots is staggering,” said Jim Crawford, Graves-Chapple director.
Rock Port High School 80s ‘Labor Day Weekend’
Rock Port alumni are invited to several events which include the following: Friday, August 30, 2024 The Rock Port Booster Club will hold a tailgate party at Blue Jay Stadium. They will serve pulled pork sandwiches from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A freewill donation will be accepted.There will be a designated area for the coaches and players to gather, eat, and visit. The Rock Port Blue Jays will host Pattonsburg in their home opener football game.
“Cultivating Opportunities” at Women in Ag event
The annual Women in Ag event will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Atchison County Memorial Building, 417 South Main Street in Rock Port, Missouri. The event is hosted by SWCD, NRCS, FSA, and MU Extension of Atchison, Holt, and Nodaway counties.
Schoolers selected to be Grand Marshals of Fairfax Fair Parade
Jim and Bobbie Schooler were this year’s Fairfax Fair Parade Grand Marshals. The Fairfax Optimist Club selected Jim and Bobbie Schooler to be the Grand Marshals of the 2024 Fairfax Fair Parade. Both Jim and Bobbie are lifelong residents of Atchison County. Bobbie began her career in health care in 1979 as a kitchen aide at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port. She also served as an EMT in the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District for 13 years. In 1988, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Hospital & Health Dept. sponsoring baby shower for new and expecting parents
Please join Atchison County Health Department and Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) for a Community Baby Shower on Wednesday, August 28, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at CH-F in Fairfax, Missouri. This shower is a come-and-go-as-you-please event for all expecting parents and new parents with babies and children. The two groups will offer education, snacks, refreshments, games, drawings, and a photo booth. Each parent will be entered into a drawing to win a grand prize.

I have been studying the Bible and four attributes of God: His holiness, His power, His love, and His grace or mercy. In doing so, I recognize that every person has a spirit or is created in the image of God which enables any person to experience God during his/her earthly life.
